My moods have been erratic lately, and it’s all because of Kane Jones. I can’t stop crying because of the words he’s spitting at me. I don’t want Kane to see me hysterical like this, but I can’t help it. It scares me how weak I am when it comes to him. I gave Kane the answers he was looking for. I even gave Kane one last time together, but he is obviously out to torture me. To hurt me the way I hurt him… and he’s succeeding.

Kane says he came here for closure, but in guy speak, he just wanted one last romp. And I gave it to him because I wanted him. I still want him. And I know I will always want him.

I wait to hear Kane leave the apartment so that I can stop holding myself upright. My entire body is a trembling mess. But the sound of my door opening never comes.

Suddenly, Kane’s arms wrap around me. He turns me around and pulls me to his chest. My short arms do my best to wrap around him. I clutch his dress shirt in my hands. I’m sure my tears are soaking the expensive material as well as wrinkling it, but Kane holds me tight. Like a warm blanket that keeps me safe.

“These past two weeks have been hell,” he admits.

His raspy voice is muffled since I’m pressed so tightly to him. I can feel his chin move as he talks since it’s resting on the top of my head. I nod against his chest.

“I’ve been on such a short fuse,” I sigh.

“I know,” he chuckles.

I look up at him and scowl.

“How?”

He raises his eyebrows at me, indicating the little sobbing episode I’d just had with him. But he doesn’t say anything about that, thankfully.

“I went to your job before coming here; I ran into Renata.”

Ugh, just the thought of Renata running into Kane disgusts me. She probably wants to dig her claws into him like she would have loved to have done with Jason. Who knows what she told Kane about me!

“Oh God, what did she tell you?”

“That you got fired and put your hands on her. But she’s not going to press charges,” he flashes an amused smirk.

I roll my eyes and can’t help but laugh.

“I literally tapped her in the forehead.”

“You got fired over a tap?”

“No. They couldn’t afford me anymore, so they let me go. And that’s why I’m moving. Melanie is putting me up on her couch until I get back on my feet,” I explain.

“No,” Kane shakes his head.

“No?”

I look at him, confused.

“You’ll stay with me.”

My eyes pop out of my head. Kane wants me to move in with him? He pities me, and while the gesture is sweet, I already feel pathetic enough. To take him up on that offer would just make me feel even more helpless and needy.

“Kane, it’s fine. You don’t have to move me in with you.”

“Look, if you don’t want to be with me, okay. But I won’t have you sleeping on someone’s couch when I have four extra bedrooms, not to mention two small apartments that are mine on the penthouse floor,” Kane says. “You can have your own space and stay as long as you like. You don’t even have to see me…” Kane rambles. “You can even use my penthouse at the Hotel Magnolia if you prefer that.”

His blue eyes are big and glassy and concerned about me. I put my hand to his chiseled jaw, and it flexes underneath my touch.

“Why wouldn’t I want to see you?” I ask with a smile.
