Story: Wayward Souls
“Fuck dude, I had no idea. Shit!” he exclaims.
“What?”
“They have a notorious hacker man, he has all kinds of hidden security, technology beyond even me. He can back trace even after the digital footprint has been cleared, do you still have that phone?”
I nod, pulling it from my pocket. Zeke snatches it and spikes it to the ground. Stomping on it with the heel of his boot for good measure.
“Bro what the fuck?”
“No, he’s right to do it Travis. You have no fucking idea what you’re up against. Ryker was a piece of shit, but the Syndicate. They are elite. Wealthy. They have chapters set up all over the country and a few overseas. The Brotherhood is weak sauce compared to them. If they want your girl, they won’t stop until they get her,” Hannah says, looking down at the floor.
“How do you know so much about them?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“Another life Trav… another life.”
“Okay, so, Zeke. I need you to hook me up man. I need an untraceable phone. I’m going to make contact with Grant Maddox.”
“Are you insane?” Hannah snaps. “Do you know who the fuck that is?”
“Do you?” I spit. “And I’m perfectly sane. I’m not letting Spencer spend her life running. This shit ends.”
“Yeah, I know who he is. He isn’t just high ranking Trav, he’s one of the Four.”
“The Four?”
She nods, looking over at Zeke who runs his hands through his hair and begins to pace.
“Shit man, I had no idea when I agreed to get involved in this.”
I stand up, and raise both hands, “Alright everyone calm the fuck down. First, the Four? Explain?”
“The Four are the top ranking members of the Syndicate. Each one has their own region that they keep tabs on and run. Basically, the top of the top.”
I nod, “Okay, I can handle that shit. Maddox is no match for me. I’ll snap that fucker in half.”
“It’s not him you need to worry about, it’s the deadly army of mercenaries they have beneath them,” she sighs.
I nod, scratching my chin, “Zeke, the phone?”
“Y-yeah, I mean. Give me the day. I gotta get a burner and put some encryption in it. Look I can’t promise they won’t be able to trace it forever, but I’ll get you something that can buy you time.”
I nod, “That’s good man. All I need is a little time.”
He swings his backpack over his shoulder, “Alright, well I’m on it. I’ll bring it to the masquerade?”
“Sounds good man,” we bump fists and Zeke heads out the back.
Turning on my stool I face Hannah.
“Come on, how deadly are we talking?”
“Trav, I know what you can do. I’ve seen what you’re capable of, but,” she sighs. “I just don’t know. You need more manpower. You, Riot, and some of your enforcers aren’t going to be able to take them down alone.”
Running my hands down my face, I try to think. I can’t call in Declan, he’s already sacrificed too much to this life.
“What about the Reapers?” I ask, ready to do anything it takes. They helped when Ryker went off the rails, but then, we had a common enemy. Arsenal assured me we had each other’s backs, but I’m not too sure how they’d feel about making a new enemy just to help us.
“I mean, I can take it to the guys, but I can’t make any promises Travis.”
