Story: Wayward Souls
“Sorry, Riot. We kinda met awhile back after the incident but well, you were in and out of it. You probably don’t remember.”
I nod my head. He feels a little familiar but those few days are such a haze in my mind.
“Where’s Travis?”
“He had some business to take care of today. He didn’t want you alone, so he ordered a shit ton of breakfast and asked me to stay and hang out for the day. Personally I’m an eggs guy though so I thought I’d make myself something. Fucking starved.”
I nod again, slowly.
He’s worried I’m going to take off.
“Okay, well, Riot. What’s a girl gotta do to get some coffee around here?”
“Yeah, of course,” he spins around and pulls a mug down from the kitchen cabinet, and grabs a full pot from the counter. Filling it up, he turns around to face me, “Cream? Sugar?”
“Black is fine.”
“Psycho,” he mutters, and I laugh loudly. “I mean really, who drinks coffee black?”
Setting the pot back on the warmer, he dumps the skillet of scrambled eggs onto a plate, tosses a fork on it and picks the plate up with his other hand. Rounding the kitchen island he sets the mug of coffee in front of me and perches on a stool beside me, setting down his plate.
“Well, this is awkward,” I mumble, bringing the hot cup of coffee to my lips. Taking a long sip, letting the scalding hot liquid roll down the back of my throat.
“Only if you make it that way,” he winks at me and smiles.
“I’m sorry, are you hitting on me?”
“What?” he bursts into laughter and it’s as though there’s an inside joke I wasn’t let in on.
“Is something funny?”
“One, I value my fucking life Spencer. Travis is my boss, I wouldn’t dare hit on you. Two, you’re not exactly my type.”
“Don’t like redheads?” I grin.
“Don’t like pussy,” he grins back at me.
“Ahh point made,” I laugh and feel a little bit more at ease with him. Not that I thought Travis would leave someone hanging around that would hurt me, I just have a hard time trusting anyone or anything anymore. Shit, I’m not even sure I can trust Travis.
“So, you’re here to babysit me I guess…what’s the plans for the day? Apparently I’m like a princess locked in a fucking tower and I can’t leave.”
“Not exactly,” he shrugs, shoving a forkful of eggs into his mouth. “you can leave. Just not alone. Somewhere you wanted to go?”
I pick at my muffin some more and slide it away. “Well, I mean, I could use some clothes. Maybe my place?”
Riot scratches his head and runs his fingers through his hair, “Not sure that’s such a great idea Spencer -“
“Aria.”
“Yeah… Right. Aria. Not the best idea. Maybe I can take you shopping instead.”
“And what? Leave the house in Travis’s underwear?”
“No, Travis washed your clothes from last night. You can wear those. We can go pick up some necessities, some outfits, grab some lunch. Really whatever you want.”
“I don’t have my purse,” I grumble.
“That’s ok,” he smiles, and reaches into his back pocket producing a shiny silver card. “Travis left his credit card. Said to go wild.”
I nod my head. He feels a little familiar but those few days are such a haze in my mind.
