Story: The Comeback Pact
Yet, here’s Kenna, anxious and nervous. I can’t even bring myself to make her say it. “If Sydney says it means that you’re mine, she’s right.”
“Yours?” Her brows pull together.
“Officially.”
“So, for the record, I agreed to date you before I knew what you could do to me with your pants on.”
A laugh escapes my throat. Can she be any more perfect? “I think you’ll like what I can do to you with my pants off, too.”
She locks gazes with me. “I’m looking forward to it,” she says with a grin. “But really, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page.”
“Were you thinking the same?”
Her smile widens. “I wouldn’t have put your jersey on if I wasn’t thinking you were at least saying that you liked me better than any of the other girls here.”
“I like you way more than any of the other girls here.”
“Excellent. We’re on the same page again.” She tilts her head. “Hmm.”
“What?”
“I’m trying to decide if my parents will like you despite being a football player.”
Shit. I hadn’t thought of that.
She pushes my shoulder. “Don’t look scared. You won me over.”
“Maybe we don’t have to tell them.”
She rolls her eyes. “Oh yeah. Mom, Dad, this is West. He’s six-foot-something. I know he’s built like a football player with all the muscles and the wide shoulders of a football player, but obviously, he’s not a football player. He’s the furthest thing from a football player. He’s—”
“A normal guy.”
“You, West Brooks, are anything but normal.”
I grip her hip, squeezing it a little. I’m not used to getting compliments from people I care about. “Maybe we’ll tell them I play soccer instead.”
She shakes her head.
“Baseball?”
The look on her face saysyeah, right. “With these guns?” she asks, poking my biceps. “No, we’ll tell them exactly who you are.”
“Now that’s scary.”
She chuckles. “As soon as we say your name, I’m pretty sure they’ll know, anyway.Everyoneknows West Brooks.”
“No, everyone onlythinksthey know West Brooks,” I tell her, rolling to my back.
She scoots closer, laying her head in the crook of my shoulder. “Who else knows about your mom and dad?” she asks.
“Just you and Aidan.”
She nods into my chest, then moves her hand to my torso. Her breath evens out, and I only know she’s awake because she rubs her fingers across my skin every once in a while.
“Can I stay?” I ask. She’s so content here, I don’t want to leave. Plus, I’m comfortable. It feels nice to be connected to someone like this.
“I’d like to see you try to go.”
“Yours?” Her brows pull together.
“Officially.”
