Page 41 of The Alien Warrior's Mate
Her brain tripped over Ga Eun’s words. “It’s because of me, isn’t it?”
“He detected that there was another human like me in the area and, when he got Korben’s message, he matched the location.” She touched Sara’s arm. “He wanted to meet you. We both did.”
“You both… so you two are really together?”
“Forever.”
“What about earth? Don’t these guys have ships?”
Ga Eun sighed. “The Plutonians developed the technology to travel back and forth between this planet and earth.”
“That’s great! That means I can—”
“But it was stolen.”
Her shoulders slumped.
“That’s why,” Ga Eun kicked a rock, “everything the Plutonians make has a bio-lock. They don’t want it falling into any other species’ hands.” She pointed at Enthara. “No one but a Plutonian can access and control Plutonian tech.”
But I can.Again, Sara kept the confession inside. Right now, she felt too overwhelmed. In the back of her mind, she’d always had an exit strategy. Somewhere she could escape to.
Earth.
She’d seen how cutthroat this planet was and hadn’t given a thought to the idea that it was possible tostay withher alien forever.
“I can tell that you’re freaking out, but you should relax. Rune’s kept us safe here for three sun cycles. And we’ve built a life together.”
“By safe… you mean hidden, don’t you?”
Ga Eun stared at the ground. “It’s complicated. Rune left his tribas for me and so I stay isolated for him.”
“Tribas?”
“It’s like a clan. A faction of the Plutonian race. They have to live in groups in order to survive and Rune’s skill with mechanical engineering and technology made him a vital member of his tribas. When he left, he crippled his species.”
“Ga Eun,” Rune called, breaking into their conversation. The couple began to exchange words so quickly that Sara couldn’t keep up.
“What did he say?” Sara asked.
“To be careful. There are big rocks and I could trip.” Ga Eun rolled her eyes. “He’s so overprotective.” She smirked mischievously. “Korben too. He hasn’t taken his eyes off you since we got here. And Enthara’s keeping close.” She gestured to the dinosaur. “You can always tell what your mate is feeling by the actions of his zapten.”
“Korben and I aren’t together. It’s…” Sara stammered. “It’s…”
“Complicated?”
“Right.”
Ga Eun laughed gently. “Understood.”
Sara looked back at Korben and found that he was staring right at her. In the flickering torchlight, Korben’s expression was fierce as always but got progressively more tender the longer their gazes held. The air crackled with the promise of somethingmore. But it was insane to wantmorewith an alien.
Wasn’t it?
“Can I ask you…” Ga Eun spoke hesitantly, “how many females survived the journey this time?”
“I don’t know. I woke up at the auction house, but so far, I’ve only really met one other human. Emma. She wasn’t on the spaceship with me though.”
Ga Eun stiffened. “The Rulari. Disgusting. I want to burn all those brothels down.”
