But she can’t stay either. Though she hasn’t mentioned Marisol in a while, she’s sent them her candy. When they do answer, I’m sure they’ll love it, and she’ll get the job.
What the hell are we going to do?
With a final glance around, I take a deep breath, and the silence is interrupted by light steps I’ve learned to recognize.
“Hello?” Primrose calls.
She can’t see me from the entrance as I’m in the last box, so I call, “Here.”
“Where are the horses?” she asks, joining my side. She’s wearing a light-purple dress and a thin yellow cardigan, and though she’s gorgeous, it’s got nothing on how she looks naked, sweaty, whining my name as I fuck her with my fingers and suck her clit.
Or tucked under my chin, tracing the tattoos on my chest.
“Out in the back. Socializing.”
“Huh.” She walks closer, grabs the broom from my hand, and sets it down. “Kyle said that the piglets love his place.”
I study her worried expression and stifle a smile. I had to move the pigs after Josie saw them. I’m not even sure if she remembers—maybe she was too drunk for it. If not, she’s pretending she doesn’t. “Are you worried they won’t want to come back to you?”
“Maybe a little.” She frowns, her lips sticking out. “I mean, they’re nothispiglets. He’s going to give them back, right?”
And to think at the beginning, she was afraid of them.
When I give her a firm nod, she lets out a relieved sigh. “Have been missing you, cowboy.”
“I don’t know how I ever thought leaving the farm in Kyle’s hands would be a smart idea. I was gone for one day, and the whole place went to hell.” I rub the back of my neck, and I fit my hands inside my pockets as she approaches.
“Well, it doesn’t matter since neither you nor the farm are going anywhere. That check your brother gave you...holy crap, that’s a big number.” She entangles her fingers with mine, then brings the usual red lollipop to her lips. “Did you hear anything from the police?”
My muscles stiffen, but I nod. “Actually, yeah. Josie called.” I can’t say hearing her voice is too pleasant these days.
“Oh? What for?”
“She said we’re officially on our way to being a cold case,” I say, her discomfort melting like ice cream in the sun. “No time or resources to keep digging, and apparently, there was a robbery at the jewelry store. Takes priority over piglets and improper trash disposal.”
She chuckles, exhaling deeply. “I can’t believe we made it.”
“Told you,” I whisper as I let my hand trail down to the small of her back, then lean forward to kiss her forehead. If I’m being honest, I’ve had my doubts here and there. But wedidmake it, and now we’ll need to figure out everything else. “So, I thought that maybe we should talk...“
Her chin rests on my chest, and I can tell by the look in her eyes that talking isn’t what she’s here for. “Again, Barbie?”
After last night, I’m surprised she can even stand.
She bites her bottom lip, the telltale flush of embarrassment tinging her cheeks. “Maybe? Is it bad?” She shrugs. “We don’t have much—” She presses her lips, as if we decided that our time running out isn’t something we’ll discuss, and now she’s broken the silence. “I mean...There’s still a lot we haven’t done.”
“It’s not bad.” I lean with my back against the box, pulling her with me. “I might shoot dust, but I’ll fuck you as many times as you want me to.”
“What if I don’t want to fuck?” she asks, brows arching sweetly. “There’s still something on my list we haven’t done.”
“What’s that?”
“Teach me new things.”
“Uh-huh.” A heap of possibilities roam through my mind. Last night, I spun her around like nobody’s business. We banged the headboard against the wall enough to cause a dent. Hell, with how I went at it, I’m surprised I didn’t break the bed. Or her.
Yet there are so many things we should try. So many things I want to do.
She rolls the lollipop around her lips, then suggestively presses it over her tongue until it disappears in the back of her mouth.
