Story: Jett
“But... they’re playing in Canada.” My voice is breathless, and my brain struggles to catch up.
Jett’s eyes glint with amusement. “That’s where we’re going.”
My stomach does a full-on nosedive. “B-but… Canada?” I echo, still not quite computing.
“It’ll be a weekend trip,” he says casually, as if he’s discussing dinner plans. “We could fly back right after the concert, but—”
“But we have plans,” I murmur, glancing at Brooke. I’m still trying to process what’s happening, still trying to figure out if this is real life or a dream.
Eliana lets out an ear-piercing squeal. “You get to see them, Car!”
I spin toward her. “You knew about this?”
“You have backstage passes!” she shrieks. “And VIP access! You get to meet them!”
Bianca nods enthusiastically, grinning like a fool.
Aunt Scarlett, looking suspiciously like the Cheshire Cat, beams at me. “You’re welcome.”
I gape at them. “Youallknew?”
“Of course we did,” Aunt Scarlett says smugly. “Your boss—sorry, yourboyfriend—wanted to check if you were free this weekend.”
I turn back to Jett, overwhelmed. “You could have just asked me.”
He smirks. “Where’s the fun in that?” Then, as if dropping the biggest bomb of all, he turns to the others. “Oh, and you’re all coming too.”
A stunned silence.
Then:
“What?” comes a chorus of gasps.
Jett nods toward Aunt Scarlett. “She assured me you were all free. And that includes you too, Scarlett.”
I see an unfamiliar expression on my aunt’s face. Surprise. Shock. Awe. I turn to Jett, feeling giddy with happiness. “You planned all of this?”
His smirk deepens. “Guilty.”
Brooke’s eyes are huge. “We’re going to Canada, Daddy?”
Jett pulls her onto his lap. “We sure are, sprout.”
“To see The Mayflies? All of us?" Eliana asks, feeling the same disbelief that I feel.
“Yes, really."
She makes a strangled noise like she’s about to combust. “T-thank you, Jett, this is—” She throws her hands in the air, utterly speechless.
Aunt Scarlett shakes her head in disbelief. “To Canada and back in one day?”
Jett shrugs. “Not just that. We’re going to the after-party too.”
I choke. “What?”
Bianca lets out a low whistle. “Well, damn. Money really can buy anything.” Then, as if realizing how that sounds, she tacks on, “Not that I’m complaining.”
Jett chuckles. “Didn’t think you would.”
Jett’s eyes glint with amusement. “That’s where we’re going.”
