Story: Jagged Edges
“So I’ll give you a call if we find something?” Arsenal tugs my mind away from the torture going on in the room we’ve just left behind.
“Yeah, I kinda have some shit going on tonight, but if it’s urgent… I mean I’ll be here at the club.”
“Oh really?” he cocks his eyebrow at me. “This have anything to do with what we talked about?”
“Maybe,” I grin.
“And you’re bringing it to my front door? Well shit, I can’t wait to have a front row seat.”
Shoving past him as I head for the exit, I shake my head and call out over my shoulder, “Don’t get any ideas bruh, seriously.”
“I dunno I might come join you kid! Maybe you can use a fourth!”
Pushing the door open with one hand, I flip Arsenal the middle finger with the other, shaking my head as his laughter is drowned out by the music booming throughout the club.
Cutting off the engine, I glance around the parking lot, but Zeke’s pickup is nowhere in sight. I knew it was a risk giving him an ultimatum, and some part of me is beginning to regret it. But I know it was the right thing to do, because what was the alternative? Loving one man I can’t have and pining after another I also can’t have? Hanging in limbo, lonely and miserable?
“He’ll show up,” Cole’s reassuring voice makes me smile.
“Yeah, I hope so,” I murmur as I unbuckle and we both climb out of the car.
We make our way around the front of my Mustang and Cole does what Cole tends to do around me, speaking his insecurities into existence. “It’s okay though, we don’t have to do this, you know. I’d totally understand.”
“Stop doing that,” I respond, as I reach out and grasp his hand in mine, pulling him close. His hands are smooth and soft, his fingers are long, and when I lace our hands together we fit like pieces of a puzzle. Cole is usually so confident, but I’ve noticed the way he gets nervous, fidgety, and all up in his head around me, and I like it.
No, I love it.
“Okay,” he sighs, “but dancing?”
“What?” I grin sheepishly, pulling him toward the doors of The Underground.
“What happened to all that ‘I can’t dance’, talk?”
“But you like it,” I answer as we step inside the club. Pulling him to my side, I slip an arm around his waist and lean in to whisper in his ear, “And tonight’s about you.”
A red flush peeks up from beneath the collar of his shirt, crawling up his neck, spreading across his cheeks, and the effect that I’m having on him makes my entire body tingle.
“Alright, West,” he exhales, “Let’s see what you got then.”
Pulling me along with him, he heads straight for the dance floor, and I’m acutely aware of the fact that I’m going to make a total ass out of myself tonight, but I can’t find it in me to care.
The music crashes over us like a tidal wave, the beat, the bass, the vocals. I love the way it feels, but I have no fucking idea how to move my limbs. Spinning around, Cole pulls me toward him by my hand and his hips move side to side as Kygo booms through the speakers. I follow his moves, faking it ’til I make it, but I stumble along as I try to find the beat.
Gripping the front of my shirt, Cole jerks my body toward his until our bodies are dangerously close. Our lips graze as his body rolls against mine, and I can almost taste the wintergreen gum on his lips every time he exhales.
“Just let go,” he whispers, and I follow his lead.
I let go.
Shades of neon blue and purple flash through the dark club, and I’m drawn to the way they dance across Cole’s skin. All of the instruction in the world won’t make me a good dancer, but the music flows through me and I’m entranced by the way his body moves against mine. Swaying my body with the music, I move closer until there’s no space at all left between us, and my heart is racing against the beat of the song.
Closing my eyes I move my body with his, and he guides me along the way, making me feel like less of a fool. The DJ spins to a more high energy track, the neon lights turn green, flashing in sync with the beat, and Cole smirks at me.
“You know you’re not really that bad. What’s all this beached seal stuff Spencer was going on about?”
“I mean, you want me to let loose?”
“Let’s see what you got.”
