Page 50 of If It's You
Lindsay snapped her head back to Maizie. “No one.”
“Yeah right. They aren’t here.” Maizie headed to the kitchen to get drinks.
“Okay, seriously M, what are you waiting for? Christian is so hot.”
There’s my best friend.
“Maybe because I don’t like him.”
“Who says you have to like him to date him?” Lindsay wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
Maizie gave her a stern look that answered that question.
“Okay, but you can’t tell me you don’t find him attractive.”
Maizie turned back to the cupboard. She took out a plate and began arranging the snacks on it. Lindsay always made fun of her, saying they could eat the snacks out of the bags like true teenagers, but Maizie thought it was more fun to decorate a plate. She and Mack would always have competitions over who could make the snacks look tastier. Whoever’s plate was empty first would win.
“Okay, fine.” She let out a breath and adjusted an Oreo. There. A perfect flower. “He’s a little cute.” She admitted, a smile playing on her lips. Who was she kidding? Lindsay was her best friend. Maizie could be honest with her. “Actually, you should have seen him with his shirt off today. Heaven help me, I’ve never seen muscles like that.” She picked up the finished plate and turned back to her best friend who had mysteriously fallen silent.
Christian and Jayce stood beside Lindsay not even bothering to hide the smiles on their faces.
Her cheeks burned. Was it too late to fake a peanut allergy?
Maizie pursed her lips, and Lindsay and Jayce seemed to step back simultaneously.
“So. . . you think I’m hot, huh?” Christian smirked.
Her heart beat so hard, she worried it would bust through her ribcage.
“Nope. I said cute. And I was talking about Jayce.” She tried to step around him, but he blocked her escape route with his insanely gorgeous body. She forced her eyes to his.
“Nah, he doesn’t look as good with his shirt off,” Christian said with a smug smile.
“Hey! Offended,” Jayce cut in.
Maizie’s pulse raced. “At least he’s not conceited like you.” She pushed past him and practically ran to the family room.
The one and only time she dared to admit she found Christian attractive and there he was, right behind her with his arrogant smile.Ooh!She wanted to tell him where to go and how to get there, but instead she focused on getting the movie ready. She skipped past the previews and slumped onto the couch.
Where was Lindsay? She wasn’t about to go back out into the lion’s den to find her. Hopefully, the boys would leave soon so she could relax and enjoy tonight.
“I hope you don’t mind that I invited the boys.” Lindsay sauntered in pulling them both along with her.
Yes, I do mind. She had already embarrassed herself enough. But it’s too late now.
“Whatever,” she muttered.
Lindsay sat down on the opposite couch, and Jayce fell down right next to her. That left only the two seats on either side of Maizie. Why had she sat in the middle? She was about to move to the left when Christian took the seat to her left, nearly sitting on top of her.
“Can I sit here? Or will my abs be too distracting?” he said, so close to her ear, goosebumps erupted where his breath tickled her neck.
Maizie slid away. “Please, we are watching Channing Tatum. No one’s going to be looking at you.” She purposely kept her eyes forward because she for one wasnotlooking at him. Or smelling him. Why did he smell so good?
“Wait, what are we watching? Lindsay said it was an action movie.”
Maizie laughed out loud as the menu popped up on the screen. “Sorry, not that Channing Tatum movie.”
“Step Up?” Christian read the screen. “What is this?”
