Story: Conceal (Eagle Tactical 3)
Chapter Twenty-Six
Harper
Mason drove us to Ariella’s house on the mountain.
I glanced every so often behind us, making sure that Enzo hadn’t followed us.
Would he be waiting outside my hotel room tonight when I went home?
How long could I avoid him?
“Is anyone going to tell me why I had to rush over?” Mason asked.
“I don’t know,” Hazel said. She glanced out the side window. “Maybe Ariella or Harper can answer you.”
“Thanks for that,” Ariella huffed under her breath. “We saw someone who we didn’t want to converse with and thought it would be a good idea to leave.”
Hazel shifted around in the front seat to face us. “Before we even ordered lunch? You’re keeping secrets from me, and I don’t like it.”
Mason glanced up in the rearview mirror. His gaze landed on me. If I told him, wouldn’t he tell all his buddies, and it would get back to Lincoln?
No, thank you.
“You’re going to have to tell him,” Ariella said. She nudged me with her elbow. “You can trust Mason.”
“Right? So, he can go back and tell Lincoln?” I exhaled a loud sigh and folded my arms across my chest. “That’s the last thing I need right now, more drama.”
I wasn’t talking to Lincoln right now. I’d just gotten over the fact that he worked security detail for the set, and today I’d discovered that he had been my bodyguard.
To say I was pissed at him was an understatement. I couldn’t even look at him without boiling over.
Had every night that we’d spent together, under the stars or shacked up in my trailer been because of his job?
Ariella’s voice was soft and quiet as she spoke. “Enzo is here for a reason.”
I knew that. It’s why my stomach was in knots, and I wanted nothing more than to go home.
I’d trashed my cell phone. I had no idea if the studio had contacted me to fire me.
Maybe I could lie low, hide out with Ariella for a few days, and just let this shit storm that brewed pass over.
Mason cleared his throat. “Does Enzo have a last name?” He didn’t even pretend that he couldn’t hear what was said between us.
“No.” My jaw firm, I refused to give it up. If I did, then he’d find out the truth, that I was married to Enzo.
Mason pulled the vehicle up to the front of the house and turned off the engine. He climbed out with us, walking up to the front door.
Was he just making sure that we got inside, or was he planning on staying?
We followed up to the porch, and Ariella dug out her key. She unlocked the door and let us inside while she disarmed the alarm. “It’s girl’s night, which means you need to leave,” Ariella said, pushing Mason out the door.
He took several strides backward but remained on the porch. “Set the alarm and don’t answer the door for anyone,” Mason said.
“Relax. Jaxson will be home late tonight. I promise not to let anything happen to your girlfriend,” Ariella teased.
“Bye!” Hazel blew him a kiss and waved, giggling. “Shut the door!”
Ariella slammed the front door and armed the alarm.
