Story: Conceal (Eagle Tactical 3)
Chapter Twenty-Four
Harper
The director was a grade-A asshole.
I’d dealt with him one too many times, and today I wasn’t in the mood to button my lips and walk on eggshells.
Someone else could do that for him.
I didn’t care if I got axed from the gig. It was a crummy acting job for a film that probably would have tanked anyway.
Lincoln watched me from across the set.
Had he seen the outburst between the director and me?
Great.
I ran a hand through my hair, not giving a crap about the production anymore. The director had stormed off, and I wasn’t in the mood to put on a happy face and pretend to be someone that I’m not.
Some days I could fall into the role, but after the accident this morning, my world felt upside down.
It didn’t help to hear that Lincoln had been hired by the studio as my personal bodyguard.
He didn’t hesitate in the slightest. Lincoln approached me, closing the distance between us.
How much had he heard from the director? I pinched the bridge of my nose. If he was here to give me a lecture on acting professional or some other crap, I wasn’t in the mood.
“Are you all right?” Lincoln asked, his voice soft and calm yet firm.
“No.” Nothing felt all right.
My world spun wildly out of control and while I may have been reckless and stupid yesterday, running off set during filming, today was a new day. I had vowed to take the job seriously and respect the time of the cast and crew.
Little good that had done.
The truth was I wanted to run, but I didn’t have a car. It was on the side of the road. Maybe I should have driven it to the set. At least I would have had a vehicle to get around in still. However, I wasn’t sure if it was safe to drive. The front end had quite a bit of damage.
The remaining cast members and crew began to pack up for the day, again. With the director gone, it meant another day without shooting.
“Want me to take you somewhere?” Lincoln asked.
Another security guard approached the two of us. “Everything all right?” he asked.
I glanced at his name badge:Jaxson.“You’re Ariella’s husband, right?”
He looked taken aback by the question. “I’m not her husband. We’re just friends. Colleagues.”
“Oh, my apologizes.” I had thought they were together when she had called him while in Mason’s truck and mentioned that he wasn’t going to be home tonight during girl’s night.
I was mistaken. “I misunderstood. Can you give me a lift to the spa the girls are at? I could use a me day.”
I didn’t want Lincoln to drive me anywhere and Melissa hadn’t been willing to part with the keys to her car. Not that I blamed her, I wouldn’t have given me the keys either after smashing my rental.
Jaxson glanced at Lincoln before nodding. “Yes, of course. Follow me.”
“Thank you.” I left Lincoln standing there as I hurried out to the parking lot with Jaxson.
It wasn’t that I didn’t trust Lincoln, I did, but I was also seething inside for what he’d done.
