Story: Conceal (Eagle Tactical 3)
I pulled my phone from my pocket.
“Do you have a picture of her?” she asked.
“Already on it,” I said, unlocking my phone.
I opened the photos and scrolled through a few of Izzie before I landed on one with Ariella braiding Izzie’s hair as they sat on the sofa together.
“Here.” I held my breath, hoping it was anyone else who had been taken and nother.
Harper tapped the phone screen. “That definitely was the girl I saw carried into the van.”
I flipped through my phone and opened a web browser before I typed in Benjamin Ryan.
Could he have shown up in Breckenridge?
He’d said on the news that he was going to reconnect with his wife, but I never expected this type of reunion.
Had he shown signs of violence in the past?
Ariella hadn’t mentioned it to me. She had made it clear that it was over between them.
Had that been the reason why?
“What about this guy? Was he the one driving the van?” I showed Harper my phone screen with a picture of Benjamin Ryan. It hadn’t been hard to dig up his mug shot.
Harper nodded. “You know who it is?” She seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. “That means you can help find her, right?”
“Yeah, I know of him. Never met the guy.” I wasn’t looking forward to meeting him now either. “You should get back on set. I need to make a phone call and take care of some things.”
“Okay,” Harper said.
She seemed lighter on her feet, less stressed with the news that we knew who the missing girl was and who’d taken her.
I didn’t feel the least bit better with the news that Ariella had been abducted by Benjamin.
Where the hell would he have taken her?
Had he drugged her?
She wouldn’t have willingly gone with him. Harper had mentioned that Ariella had been unconscious.
I strode across the grassy field, away from the trailers and listening ears before dialing Lincoln.
“What’s up?”
“Sorry to bother you, I wouldn’t if it wasn’t an absolute emergency, but I need you to get down here and cover my shift. Ariella’s been taken.”
The weight of a boulder nestled deep in my stomach, made it difficult to breathe.
“Slow down, Monroe,” Lincoln said, referring to be my last name. “Are you sure she didn’t just decide to go for a nice stroll?”
I shook my head, forgetting that Lincoln couldn’t see me. Grimacing, I finally answered him, kicking a wayward stone tucked into the grass. “Harper saw her getting shoved into the back of a white van.”
I couldn’t just stand around but leaving while working a job. I couldn’t do that until we had extra coverage.
What if Benjamin was a diversion?
“Shit. I’ll head over there now. I’ll call Mason while I’m on the way, see if he’s done with his appointment and how he made out.”
