Story: Conceal (Eagle Tactical 3)
I glanced around. Grateful no one paid either of us any attention.
“Have you?” I countered. A hint of nervousness struck my voice. Had he noticed?
He pulled me closer and around the corner on the opposite side of the trailer where we were out of sight of the handful of crew members who had stuck around. Most had left, and the director twenty minutes earlier had called it a wrap for the day.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
We were off the clock, but we hadn’t left.
Jaxson insisted that we wait until we were the last to remain.
Like we were actually working and doing our jobs.
Someone could have driven off with one of the star’s trailers, and neither of us would have noticed.
I tipped my head upward, leaning in but not quite kissing him yet, letting the moment linger between us.
“I’m worried about you, Freckles.” He brushed a strand of hair behind my ear.
I leaned into his touch, wrapping my arms around his neck, embracing him. He had no idea how much such a simple gesture had soothed me. “Me too,” I whispered.
His breath tickled my neck as he spoke in a whisper. “I’ve been waiting to tell you this, but I made reservations for the spa. You and Hazel can spend the entire day tomorrow relaxing.”
Visiting a spa sounded wonderful. “Hazel is coming with me?” That was a pleasant surprise.
“Yes, Hazel and Mason are getting under each other’s skin, so we thought it would be a good idea to send the girls somewhere for a treat.”
“Get us out of your hair?” I joked, laughing under my breath. “What about work?”
It was the middle of the week. I couldn’t just blow off my job, even if Jaxson was my boss.
He leaned closer, his lips grazed my ear, and it sent a shudder down my spine.
Just being in his proximity made my insides warm and toasty.
“I’m sure you can make it up to me in other ways,” Jaxson said.
“If it involves handcuffs, then I’m the one securing you to the bed.” While the thought just days ago would have been fun, being bold and adventurous, I wasn’t ready to let my guard down after what happened with Ben at the hotel.
Smirking, he shook his head. “We’ll see.”
His hands caressed my waist as he tugged me closer.
I rested my hands on his chest. Our bodies practically sandwiched together. While it wasn’t particularly cool out, the slight chill of the wind was long forgotten, with his body heat warming me up all over.
“I want you to spend the day unwinding, Freckles. You deserve it.” He dropped a soft kiss to my cheek, and my eyelids fluttered shut.
I shifted slightly, leaning up on my tiptoes to taste his lips, wanting reassurances that whatever happened, we’d get through this together.
“I’m scared,” I whispered, the words difficult to voice aloud.
I opened my eyes, feeling his steady gaze on me.
“I know,” Jaxson said. “I won’t let him touch you ever again.”
It wasn’t just the fact that Benjamin was still out there, waiting to make his move.
There was so much that I hadn’t told Jaxson and when I did, would he ever look at me the same way again? I had intended to tell him last night, but I hadn’t found the confidence, too afraid to come clean.
“I need to tell you something.” My hands trembled against his chest, and I gripped his shirt, balling my hands into fists.
I leaned in, stealing another kiss, another taste, afraid that it might very well be the last.
