“But once they’re gone, we’ll need to go shopping for supplies.” I gazed at him. “We might be talking calmly and clinically about this, but inside, your heart is pounding, isn’t it?”
He swallowed. “Yes.”
“And your dick is like a rock in your jeans.” I didn’t glance at his crotch—I didn’t need to.
Another swallow, and his pupils dilated a little. “Yes.”
“And right now, all you can think about is us naked.”
“Oh God.” A flush rose up his neck, staining his ears red.
“I’ll take that as a yes. So the question is… how long do I wait before I walk up the path to your front door? And if I’m up there and not around the ranch, is that going to attract attention?” Before he could answer, I straightened in the saddle. “Tonight. I’ll come tonight.”
He gaped at me. “You kiss me, wind me up like some goddamn kid’s toy, then tell me I have towait? What are you, some kind of sadist?”
I grinned. “Nowyou’re getting it. But I’ll make you a promise.”
He waited, his breathing erratic.
“I’ll make it good for you.” I gazed ahead at the trail leading to Salvation. “This’ll be a new experience,” I said with a rueful smile.
“What will?”
“Riding with a hard-on.” And with that, I took off at a gallop.
“Where are you going?” he yelled.
I pulled on Lightning’s reins, and he came to a dead stop. I twisted in the saddle to look back at Robert. “I think we should arrive separately, don’t you? Don’t want to arousetoomuch suspicion, do we?” Without waiting for a response, I charged off again, feeling lighter than air.
Robert’s wasn’t the only heart pounding right then.
Chapter Sixteen
Robert
It took me a moment to realize the sounds filtering through my head were those of Matt clearing away the dishes.
“You done, boss?”
I glanced at the half-eaten supper. “Yeah, thanks.” I’d been too nervous to do Matt’s casserole justice.
He peered at me. “You okay?”
Does it show?“Do I look like I’m not?”
Matt smirked. “You keep looking at the clock. You expecting a visitor?” Before I could reply, he held up his hand. “You know what? It’s not my business.”
“And what are you up to this evening?” Not that I was trying to get rid of him, but…
Who was I kidding? I was trying to get rid of him.
“I’m going down to play poker with the guys. Anything you need before I go?”
I feigned a nonchalance I definitely didnotfeel. “Can’t think of anything.”
“Then I’ll see you in the morning.” He paused. “You sure there’s nothing you want?”
“Didn’t I just answer that?”
