“You look good in this light,” Robert said in a low voice.
I glanced at him and chuckled. “They can’t hear you. Our tent is nowhere near anyone else’s.” I suspected that had been his decision. Sure, he liked his privacy, but I also knew he didn’t want any stray noises reaching the others.
And then I had a delicious idea.
I ducked into the tent and grabbed the lube and the bedrolls.
“Going somewhere?” he asked from the tent flap.
“Yup.Weare going for a walk. Bring that blanket.”
He frowned. “A walk? But—”
I strolled over to him. “Supper won’t be for a few hours. Everyone’s occupied. Teague’s in charge.” I locked gazes with him. “And I want you.”
Robert
Someonesomewhere had just turned up the thermostat.
“How can I say no to that?” At least he was planning on us fucking away from the camp. “So where are we headed?” I picked up the blanket. Then as an afterthought, I dug down into my toiletries bag and fished out the packet of wet wipes.
Toby laughed. “That’s what I love about you—so goddamn practical.” Then he strolled out of the tent.
My heartbeat quickened.
It was just a turn of phrase.
Everyone says stuff like that.
What shocked me was I wanted to believe it.
I went outside to find him scanning our surroundings. He pointed toward the foot of the mountain. “Thataway.”
The farther from the camp, the better.
The terrain grew rockier as we neared the mountains. Huge boulders seemed to spring up out of nowhere, great slabs of beige-colored rock that soaked up the sun’s rays. Narrow paths twisted around them, and here and there, trees grew, not as lush as the ones along the river, but wiry with fewer leaves.
We’d been walking for maybe five minutes when Toby came to a halt.
“Why here?” The sounds of laughter from the camp were carried on the breeze. We weren’tthatfar from them.
He pointed to a boulder. “That’ll do.”
“Do for what?” Dumb question. I knew why we were there, didn’t I?
Toby patted a flat ledge of rock. “Perfect.” His gaze flickered in my direction. “Clothes—off. You can leave your boots on.”
I stared at him. “They’ll hear us.”
Okay, so it wouldn’t be the first time some of them had heard my goings-on—that didn’t mean I wanted to give a repeat performance. Besides, that had been a long time ago, when I was a hell of a lot younger, not their boss, and didn’t give a flying leap who heard. And then we’d had the cabin, safely out of earshot and away from prying eyes.
Toby grinned. “The noises you make when you’re getting fucked? I’m not surprised. Icould’vebrought a ball gag—but I didn’t.”
He’d planned this. “So the object of the scene…” I swallowed.
“Is not to get caught.” He dropped the bedrolls to the ground, and held his arms wide. “Come here and kiss me.”
An invitation I had no desire to refuse. I placed my blanket on top of the bedrolls, and walked into those waiting arms.
