“Both. I love the wine, and I love the illuminated manuscript collection.”
“What are those?” Jack asked.
Callum rolled onto his back and dropped his phone onto his chest.
“Illuminated manuscripts are basically texts with gold or silver accents. They’ve been around since before the year one-thousand. I just think they’re beautiful.”
“Mmmn.” Jack’s hum vibrated in Callum’s chest. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
“Do you like museums?” Callum asked, a little breathless.
“You’re going to be so mad when I tell you that I don’t really, and that I live two miles from the Guggenheim.” Jack laughed, but Callum could hear the embarrassment in his voice.
“No, you do not!” Callum slapped his hand down over his phone and held it to his chest. “I’d be there every weekend if I lived that close. When I come see you, I’ll take you.”
“I’d like that, kitten,” Jack cooed. “I’d very much like to do that with you.”
A small silence, like the one from earlier.
“I’d like to do that with you too. I’d like to do a lot of things with you.”
“You will.”
“Is New York pretty in the winter?” Callum asked.
“Honestly?”
“Always.”
“No.” Jack laughed. “It’s a lot of dirty, melty mud snow in the city. It’s nice upstate, where there’s less people.”
“I’ve never been in the snow,” Callum shared.
“We’ll get you in the snow then, kitten. Bundle you up and we’ll go make snow angels, okay?”
Callum’s heart skipped.
“Promise?”
“If you come to New York in the winter, we’ll go to a B&B upstate somewhere if the weather isn’t too bad and we’ll drink hot chocolate and make snow angels and…” Jack trailed off.
“And what, Daddy?” Callum closed his eyes, picturing his dream winter getaway with Jack by his side.
“We were having a perfectly nice conversation, don’t worry about the and.”
“Daddy, please?” Callum knew ways to get to Jack, just as much as Jack knew how to get to him.
Jack sighed. “Snow angels, and then I’d warm you up in the bath and fuck you while you counted the snowflakes.”
Callum inhaled sharply, Jack’s plan quickly overtaking his winter daydream. “I’d let you fuck me anywhere.”
“I have no doubt about that.”
“Would you fuck me in public?” Callum asked suddenly.
“I’m not keen to go to jail, kitten.”
“If no one could see, I mean. Like, outside but not jail worthy outside?”
