“You have a bit more work to do before you find the real treasure.”

“No, I’m looking at him,” I told Lucien. “What’s going on?”

“Did you really think that silly dare was the best kind of proposal I could come up with?”

“I didn’t think it was silly; I thought it suited us perfectly.”

“Nah,” Lucien said. “My guy wants to romance some stones and seek treasure.”

“Are you trying to tell me you’ve tucked an engagement ring under your sac?” I asked with a raised brow.

“Why don’t you come here and see?” I took a step forward, and he held up his hand. “Not so fast, big fella.” Lucien pulled a small remote from behind his back and hit a button. Dozens of laser beams shot across the room from every angle.

“Is this like Carmen’s perimeter fencing?”

“Of course not.”

Even though I knew I could charge straight toward the bed, I took my time carefully ducking beneath some light beams while stepping over others. When I finally reached the bed, I tackled Lucien to the mattress and reached between his legs. I was disappointed my treasure wasn’t there, but I hadn’t given up.

“Time for a cavity search,” I said eagerly.

“Or we could look under the pillow,” Lucien countered.

I reached beneath the pillow and pulled out a ring box. Lucien took it from me and opened it. I gasped when I saw what was inside. It wasn’t the type of ring I expected to find; it was a platinum ring engraved with a jeweled coat of arms featuring a dragon that looked just like the one inked on his chest.

“Dudley!”

“That’s no name for a magnificent beast.”

“Is this your family coat of arms?”

“This isourcoat of arms. I had it designed a few months ago and was waiting for the right time to present it to you. Ryder Jameson, will you marry me?”

So many memories flashed in my mind, not all of them were wonderful, but they each led us to the happiest moment in my life. I leaned forward and wiped the tears from his eyes just as he did for me. Emotions rose swift and hard, making it impossible for me to speak.

Lucien slid the ring on my left hand and said, “I know, love.”

The End!
