Lucien learned my armpits were a previously unchartered erogenous zone when he ran his tongue across them. Unlike him, I didn’t try to hide my reaction; I gripped his hair and kept him there. Lucien growled and mastered me as no one else could.
The biggest turn-on for me was the way we spoke to each other and continued to kiss while making love. It was about so much more than fitting my body inside his or vice versa.
“It’s like coming home,” Lucien said when he entered me. “Warm, welcoming, and fits me perfectly.”
I was on the verge of telling him I loved him, that I had never stopped loving him, but the words froze in my throat. My mouth hung open and I gasped. Lucien could’ve mistaken it as a sigh of pleasure, but he must’ve seen the truth in my eyes.
“I know, love.”
We left the Four Seasons ninety minutes later, both of us sporting new love bites beneath our clothing and wearing sated smiles.
“I could get used to this,” Lucien said, shifting gears on the powerful sports car.
“The city, the sun, or the snazzy car?”
“I like all those things, but I was referring to traveling and experiencing things with you.”
“Charmer,” I teased.
Lucien glanced over at me, and I allowed him to see the sappy smile he put on my face. No more games. “It’s the truth.”
“I’ve been to Miami many times, but I feel like I’m seeing it for the first time. How did I overlook the beautiful contrast of pastel art deco buildings mixed in with sleek, high-rise hotels and businesses? It reminds me of Deverish and Percy. Shouldn’t work but somehow does.”
Lucien threw his head back and laughed. “Your analogy is pure perfection, love. I’ve never met two men with less in common than Dev and Percy. I’ve known Dev for several years now and didn’t realize something was missing until Percy arrived and clicked into place like a wayward puzzle piece. It was like Dev looked at Percy and said, ‘Ah, there you are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.’ Then he panicked.”
“He wouldn’t be the first, and he definitely won’t be the last.”
“I envied them,” Lucien said after a few seconds passed. “They didn’t have to make up excuses of where they were going or why they couldn’t turn up on time for an event. They understood the job. No secrets. No subterfuge. I thought it made things easier for them, but Banks breeds a culture of mistrust, and if something seems too good to be true, then it most likely is. It’s no surprise Dev jumped to the wrong conclusions about Percy, but at least they worked things out.”
“Do you ever wonder what Banks has on them?”
“All the fucking time,” Lucien said as he made a right turn.
“What do you think they did before coming to work for Banks? I bet Percy was a card shark, and he got busted for counting cards.”
Lucien nodded. “I like it. I bet he has one hell of a rainy-day fund.”
“And Dev? He’s as urbane and polished as you. I already know you were an SAS officer, but what about him?”
Lucien smiled then began humming the theme song to James Bond.
“No way,” I said. “Really?”
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” Lucien said. “Close your mouth, love, or you’ll be eating bugs for a pre-dinner snack.”
I laughed instead of reminding him the windshield protected me from bugs. “You sound jealous again.”
“You should’ve seen the look on your face when you met him. Are you a Colin Firth fan?”
“I am,” I admitted. “You’re still my favorite ‘recovery specialist,’ Lucky.”
“Do I spy air quotes from the corner of my eyes?”
“Maybe.”
“This time, I’m going to wet two of your fingers and slip them in your ass while I blow you. You can use the other two fingers to tease your nipples.”
“God.”
