“Who? Prada, Lady Gaga, Chanel, and Cher?” Lucien asked.
Percy tried to look angry but couldn’t pull it off. “Lucky, I would miss your insults. I hope you come back with only minimal bruising.”
“Aw, thanks, kitten,” Lucky replied.
“I’ll be thinking of you guys and wishing like hell I could be there to help,” Deverish said. “Quinton, don’t edit the recordings until after I’ve had a chance to hear Banks beg for mercy.”
“Deal,” Quinton said.
We said our goodbyes, and I headed to my bedroom. I needed some alone time to process everything or find a way to shut down my overactive brain that wanted to show me a montage of images of Lucien getting abducted, beaten, and possibly… No. I wouldn’t allow my mind to go there. My two shadows came with me and made themselves at home on my bed while I picked up my laptop and opened my Word document. What started as something cute to keep my brain busy had turned out to be something I truly enjoyed. I’d just started typing when his Skype call came through.
“Hello, handsome,” I said when Lucien’s face filled my screen.
“I needed to see that you’re okay,” he said. “It’s a lot to process.”
“I won’t pretend I’m not scared, but I was telling the truth when I said I have faith in you.”
“I love you so much,” Lucien said, lifting his hand and caressing my face on the screen. I could feel his phantom touch and couldn’t wait for the real thing. “This will all be over soon.”
“I can’t wait.” I didn’t want to spend our time talking about Banks. I wanted to discuss normal things like other couples did, so I changed the subject. “HR called about my position at the museum earlier today. They informed me I could return anytime I was ready, and my suspension was removed from my employment record.”
“Did you tell them to go fuck themselves?” Lucien asked.
“No, I politely told them I needed time to decide if working there was something I wanted.”
“Good for you; although, I like my idea better.”
“As do I,” I admitted. “I loved seeing the video of Daniel Perez getting arrested. I might’ve watched it a dozen times.”
“We enjoyed watching it here too.”
I couldn’t wait until Lucky’s “we” comments referred to him and me. I knew how selfish it sounded, which was why I hadn’t said it out loud. If not for Carmen, Daniel’s arrest wouldn’t have happened in the first place, and Lucky wouldn’t be twenty-four hours away from freedom. My pity party wouldn’t help anyone, including myself, so I shoved my sour thoughts aside.
“I have some fun news to share,” I said.
“Yeah, what is it?”
“I started writing my first adult romance story,” I said. “It’s a far cry better than the drivel I wrote as a teen.”
“Are there sexy parts in it?”
“There will be. The guys don’t like each other much right now.”
“Might I suggest an angry fuck?” Lucien asked.
“I can run it by Reed and Leo to see if they’re interested,” I said noncommittally, but my brain had already started creating a scenario for them.
“Reed and Leo?” Lucien asked. “Let me guess: Reed is the sweet guy and Leo is the dickhead.”
“Wow. It’s like you’re peering into my head.”
“Has this Leo guy stolen something from Reed?” Lucien asked.
“In a way,” I said. “It’s more like they’re seeking the same thing and keep ruining opportunities for each other.”
“Reed should bend Leo over the sofa in his hotel and fuck him until he falls in line. It’s a proven method.”
“Noted.” Damn, I wanted to relive the moment with him again, minus the hitting part.
