Page 101 of Timber's Line
“What?”
“She did.” Memphis chuckles.
“Wow. That took some balls for her to do that.” I’m in awe of Timber.
“She took on the whole family.” London slaps my back. “You would be proud.”
“I plan to make her proud of me and support her every day,” I reply.
“Ring?” Memphis asks.
I blink my eyes, trying to figure out what he’s talking about.
Rome chuckles. “He’s talking about a ring, dummy.”
“I know what a ring is, but am I getting her a ring?” I’m questioning myself.
“Yes, you are.” Memphis pushes me toward the door.
“But the pizza . . .” I protest because I’m hungry.
He snickers. “I’ll buy you a steak on the way home.”
“We’ll take care of everything else,” Easton calls after us.
I sit in the car and think. Maybe I’m not good enough for her. Or perhaps I’m doing this all wrong. I know she loves animals, ducks, lilies, and her family. Will I be enough for her? Will I fit in?
“I can see the steam coming out.” Memphis puts the car in drive.
“Just thinking maybe I’m doing this wrong.”
“You saw what I did,” he replies, and I nod. Everyone saw it, and then Ever passed out.
“Hopefully, she won’t pass out.” He smiles at me.
We pass the downtown area and are on the back roads.
“Where are we going?”
“To see three important men in her life besides me.”
Fear strikes my heart, and I want to bolt from the car. Oh fuck.
“They’re important to her. The rest of us will fall in line, but I’m serious about hurting her.”
“I know you are. The last time we met in the cage, you beat me. I have no doubt that if I hurt her, you would kill me. I don’t have any intention of hurting her.”
“I know you won’t intentionally.”
“But couples fight. If she’s upset because we fight about something, you can’t just bust in the door.”
He laughs. “She pretty much told me the same thing.”
I can only imagine his face when she said that to him.
“You want to have their blessing. Her family is her world. Even though they have a rocky relationship right now, she would want their approval. Don’t worry. The guys are off doing some task Sal asked them to do for the show. They’re out hunting rabbits or something. Timber is with Ever.”
“Thank you.” We pull up to Shane’s, and I’m rooted in my seat.
