CHAPTER 31
Eric drove us back, and I was, yet again, jealous of his shifter ring. Jake and I stayed in our wolf forms while Eric cringed at the blood we smeared on the leather seats. When we got to his house, he brought our clothes along with towels out to the garage so we could clean before going in.
Upstairs, I checked on Lucia and was surprised to find her asleep on my bed. I left quietly and chose a different room out of the many vacant ones in the house, making sure it had its own bathroom—there was no shortage of them either.
I went back out into the living room and found Jake on the phone. No one else was in sight.
“I already told you, we’re doing it tomorrow,” Jake was saying with a slightly aggravated tone. “My guess is as good as yours.”
I chose to listen to the other side of the conversation and carefully focused my werewolf hearing.
“...managed to control the demon today?” Allison asked.
“She did, and Damien thinks it’ll work.”
“You have to let me come. I want to be there.”
“We already went over this, Allison. There’s nothing you can do to help.”
“I just want to—“
“I’ll call as soon as we’re done. If I don’t, it won’t matter. Either way, you’ll be free.”
I cringed at the last bit and found myself hating Allison all over again. She seemed desperate to make sure Jake went through with the cleansing so she could be free of the pact, but she wasn’t riskingherneck or doing anything to be with the man she loved.Bitch! She was back on my shit list for sure.
Allison started to say something, but Jake disconnected the call.
“She sucks!” I exclaimed, walking to him and wrapping my arms around his waist.
He leaned into me and placed a kiss on the top of my head. He smelled of smoke and blood, just the way I did.
I glanced about. “Where are the others?”
“They all disappeared.” We pulled apart. “Rosalina went with Damien,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Good for them.”
“About time, don’t you think?”
I nodded. “Now, how about you come with me?” I interlaced my fingers with his and guided him to the bedroom I’d scoped out.
“Oh?”
I looked him up and down. “You’re filthy. You need a good scrubbing.”
