Page 90 of The Retaliation You Deliver
My entire body trembles with anger as I think about my motives.
“I just… I can’t even describe it. Even now. I know it was wrong. But I had to do something. He groomed Libby. He did the same thing that Richard did to me. He was just as bad. He saw what it did to me, yet he did the same damn thing. He cheated on Mom time and time again, making her feel worthless. The pressure he’s put on Luc.” My fists curl as red hot fury races through my veins as I think of all the ways he’s wronged those I love.
Macie slides closer, the heat of her towel-covered body seeping into mine.
Her hand slides from my cheek to grip on to the back of my neck, pressing her brow against mine.
“I’m here,” she whispers. “It’s okay.”
“No one knew he was there aside from the Harrises. Reid and Devin were taking care of him. Making sure he didn’t die before I was ready for him to.”
“But the news said—”
“I know. I-I don’t know how. No one knew, Mace.”
“Someone must have. Maybe it was Reid or Devin.”
“Reid’s assured me they didn’t kill him.”
“The report said he died of an overdose in a hotel room. How’d he get from a warehouse to a hotel?”
“I don’t know, Red. I don’t fucking know what’s going on,” I confess, my voice hollow.
I wanted to be the one to end him. I wanted to make the final play after he’d controlled all our lives. But someone has taken that from me.
Part of me wonders if I never would have been able to do it and that’s why I’ve been putting off making that final move, content with keeping him on the edge of death.
Her lips part before she sucks the bottom one into her mouth, sinking her teeth into it. My cock twitches at the move wishing I could do the same.
I remain still as she thinks. My heart pounds knowing that at any second she could push away from me, telling me that I’m a twisted, sick cunt just like my father and run as far away as she can get.
I can’t believe my luck when she does speak and something unexpected falls from her lips.
“Can you be tied to this? Are you at risk?”
“I-I don’t know. I mean, the police haven’t turned up yet. The press is saying it was an overdose. He was found in the hotel room I took you to with a whore. Both of them OD’d.”
A shudder rips through her.
“W-where we were?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry, I won’t take you back.”
“Someone will have seen him,” she whispers.
“Apparently not. There’s no witness of him arriving. It’s his personal suite, no one else—aside from us—stays there. He will have slipped in the back door unnoticed.”
“But how?”
“I have no idea. I didn’t exactly leave him able to move the last time I saw him.”
“The night we were at the hotel?”
“Yes, but it wasn’t his blood that night. When I got there, Devin was there. He saw something in me, my need to fight, to exorcize some demons and he helped.”
“For complete psychos, they sound like half decent friends.”
“They’re loyal to the core. Just don’t cross them.”
