Rose filled him in on the bakery fire and the denials they’d gotten from all the bakeries they’d called.

“Hold on a minute, okay?”

“Sure. I’ll console myself with the last bite of my cookie.”

Gray laughed. “You do that, and I’ll try to find a way to make you happy again.”

“I’ll be happy when I see you tonight.”

He made a deep growling sound in his throat. “You say things like that and make it damn hard for me to do anything but come and find you.” The promise of what he’d do when he did filled her with desire.

“You’re blushing,” Maggie pointed out.

“Hold on,” Gray ordered.

“I’m trying, but you’ve been gone awhile and all I do is think about you.”

“Rose.”

“Yeah?”

“You’re killing me.”

“Whatever gets you here faster.” She felt like begging.

“Damn, it’s hot in here.” Maggie waved her hand in front of her face, knowing full well Gray heard everything she said, and grinned about it.

“I’m going to set the world on fire when I get my hands on you.”

“You’ll have to be here to do it.”

“Oh, my god, you two should not be let out in public,” Maggie continued to tease.

“Hold on,” Gray said again.

“I’m trying to be patient, but where you’re concerned, I want it all right now.”

Maggie gaped at her.

She felt damn good about being up front with Gray about what she wanted and letting her friend see how happy she was with Gray and how much she wanted him. Not Marc.

“Then I hope you’re ready when I get there.”

She didn’t get a chance to say anything else before he put her on hold, which only made her laugh.

“What’s so funny?”

“I don’t think he could take any more of that.”

Maggie tapped the back of her hand on Rose’s shoulder. “You are so bad.”

“It’s so fun and sexy as hell to flirt with him like this. He’s just... everything good,” she finished, not realizing Gray had come back on the line.

“Sweetheart.” His voice was deep and thick, and when he called her that it made her heart beat faster and everything in her melt.

“Yeah?”

“You’re not just killing me, you own me.”
