Lorelei
Lorelei sat in the car patiently waiting for Daemon to come back to let them know the coast was clear, so they could make their way back to Stonehenge. Samuel yawned in the backseat, still waking up from their nap in between dinner and their return here.
The dream she had earlier was spiraling over and over in her mind, the grotesquely disfigured child, Daemon’s screams as his wings were ripped away like paper.
London, her home— on fire. Daemon comforted her when she woke screaming and sweating in his arms. She had nearly knocked him off the bed with how frantically she’d awoken.
The panic must have alarmed him because Daemon’s eyes quickly went a dark green color and the protectiveness in his voice, although reassuring, still wasn’t enough to calm her for several minutes as she wailed and whimpered about the possibility of hurting him and failing to save everyone.
He reassured her that she could never hurt him, and although she nodded silently, she wasn’t so sure that was true.
His very being near her meant he was a traitor, a betrayal to his kind, a rogue on the wrong side.
The sheer truth of what they were trying to accomplish meant he was always in danger.
Daemon tried to get her to tell him what she saw in her dream, but to speak it made her feel like it would come to life, and she couldn’t bring herself to discuss it.
With their connection, she knew it hurt him that she was shutting him out.
Keeping it from him seemed wrong. But she was too afraid of the consequences that may come if she told him.
That wasn’t the only thing on her mind. Lorelei was mulling over exactly what they were doing here.
When they were at Stonehenge earlier that morning, they were seeing if something would happen to her while there, something that might give her a clue as to what the next step in their mission was.
And to her shock and dismay, something did happen.
It felt like a whisper; it was quiet—subtle at first, and it sounded like a buzzing bee was in her mind.
Slowly, as she breathed and focused on it, an almost ethereal melody arose.
It was beautiful and eerie at the same time.
It was calling to her, inviting her in to see more.
A flash of bright blue came across her eyes, although they were closed, and the melody intensified.
But soon, it faded and was no more. The buzzing ceased.
The moment passed. When they were walking back to the car afterwards, she was unable to hide her frustration.
“It was your first time trying to connect to it. Don’t beat yourself.” Daemon said, hopeful at her attempt and that it meant that they were indeed at the right place.
Looking out the window, she saw a shadowy figure approaching and when Daemon’s face finally came into view, he opened the car door for her.
“No one is around. I put up a couple of protective spells to enhance our chances of going undetected, but they're not a guarantee; they won't be as strong as the ones earlier today. It’s best we all stay on guard while we’re here.”
Daemon reached a hand out to Lorelei as she stepped out of the car.
Taking it, she gave a soft smile and he squeezed her hand gently.
Samuel scuttled out of the backseat and stretched before walking alongside them.
When they arrived back at the stones, they hopped over the roping that originally kept them several hundred metres before, and as they walked nearer, Lorelei felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up.
A vibration or sort of static feeling enveloped her body, and it was as if the air around the colossal structure sensed her presence.
Daemon finally let go of her hand once they reached the center of the stones, and unzipped his backpack to pull out several various sized candles.
He started laying the candles around in a circle, matching the placement of the stones, and lit them one by one with the flick of his fingers, stepping back once finished, looking at the both of them.
“The candles help with clearing the energy left before. A sort of cleansing to help set the tone for you, that way, you don’t get lost in there.”
Samuel spoke up before Lorelei.
“Lost? Lost where?”
“Exactly my question. What are you talking about Daemon?” Lorelei looked at him, his face lit by the surrounding candles, but shadows danced and moved across his striking features as he turned to face her.
His silvery hair caught the light just enough to look like the tips of it were on fire.
His glowing green eyes shone brightly, almost glowing in the dark.
He beckoned with his hand for her to sit down on the ground with him within the circle of candles.
Sitting quietly, afraid to disturb the peace of the moment in fear that something dastardly could pop out from behind one of the large stones, Lorelei faced Daemon and Samuel in the circle.
Daemon looked around them, purveying the area again before speaking.
“I know that you feel a connection here, I feel one too. But it’s faint, almost illegible and far off.
I had a thought earlier to try something that could possibly help us connect with the force here better, quicker.
I could train you to meditate and allow yourself to come to this connection on your own, but we just don’t have that kind of time.
So I have another plan…one that is possibly a long shot and one I have never achieved on my own. ”
Daemon’s voice went quiet, ashamed that he was admitting that his plan may not work at all, although it seemed to be the only plan he had.
Lorelei steadied her breathing and nodded.
“A plan is better than nothing, even if it’s a long shot.”
Daemon turned to Samuel.
“Unfortunately, with you being a demon, you will be unable to join us. Therefore, your job is to keep a lookout and protect us while we go in. We are both going to be in a trance, unable to hear much or feel grounded to where we are. That's one reason the candles are here, but we also need your help if we get too deep, or if something happens while we are gone; you will have to pull us back out. You will be the bridge back to this plane so we may return. That means you have to do everything in your power to “wake” us in a sense, so we don’t get stuck. It’s imperative you do so, or else we may never be back in this dimension again.
We are also counting on you to defend our bodies if anybody should show up to attack. ”
His voice was grave, and it sent shivers throughout Lorelei. Samuel was equally panicked.
“What are you talking about?? I know I did alright at training today but that doesn’t mean I could fight and protect you all by myself! And what do you mean you won’t come back? Where are you going?”
Daemon hesitated before answering, “We are traveling to the Akasha, to attempt to access the Akashic Records.”
Lorelei stared at him dumbstruck; this was not a term she'd run across in all her studies. Daemon noticed and continued quickly.
“The Akasha is a higher dimension than the one we are on now. It’s a place that exists on a different plane from our own, but allows you to move through time.
Every thought, action, and idea from the past, present, and future are stored there.
In essence, it is sort of library of what will happen, what is happening, and what has happened in all of the Universe, for all time.
Similarly to Heaven, time can move all at once or not at all.
The rules of time don’t apply to you there like they do here.
You can be in the present time but see clearly what came to be in a moment a thousand years before, and you can be there like it was happening right now.
Each person or soul has their own individual record they are able to access here.
It can tell a person exactly what the trajectory of their life could be—if they stay on that particular course 10 years from now.
It can also show you potential outcomes of scenarios or reveal not only your history, but of those most closely connected with your own journey.
Pretty much, it’s the biggest book keeper of all time.
I figured we had no other leads, no clue as to what to do next, and perhaps the best bet would be to access your Akashic records and see if we can learn anything from there. ”
Samuel looked between them and hugged his arms across his chest.
“But what does that have to do with you not coming back? Daemon, I can’t fight off demons or angels if they come and you’re not here!”
Daemon was concerned and Lorelei could tell the thought of Samuel’s chances of fending off whatever possible assault that comes, may have run across his mind as well. But surprisingly, Daemon smiled brightly at Samuel and patted his shoulder.
“You got it, mate! The way you moved today on the field, no matter what, you have speed on them for one. And two, your ability to manipulate the elements will be your biggest strength. Just slow down and don’t think too hard, alright?”
For the first time, Lorelei could see a companionship between Daemon and Samuel. Daemon was showing a protectiveness of Samuel she hadn’t seen before, and it made her heart feel warm witnessing it.
Finally Lorelei found the courage to accept it; she didn't have a clue where she was going, and it didn't sound real; but she had to believe Daemon knew what he was doing, and she believed him completely.
“Okay. Let’s do it then.”
Daemon winked at her and turned his attention to Samuel.
