“There was only ever one person I knew with this much intuitive and prophetic power—because yes, Daemon is correct in assuming this dream of yours is prophetic. I have never met another human with such a tenacity for connection to the spiritual and divine. The last to have such a deep connection to their intuition and ability to reach enlightenment in this way—who was a human—is who you now know as ArchAngel Metatron. He is the only known human who ascended to angel status by way of living a righteous life on Earth. In the book of the Bible, you can find him referenced as the so-called prophet Enoch….Not sure how accurate that tale is; humans always exaggerate tales of this grandeur, you know. Anyways, he was made the sole keeper of the place of infinite knowledge of the Universe because of this very gift of intuition you also have, Lorelei. You are a wonder, my dear. There is no telling what you would’ve been able to accomplish as an oracle or Seer if you were to have known about this ability long ago.
It’s untapped potential, but there is room for growth to enhance this ability.
My…I am awestruck, to say the least. Other than the Great Pathea, I once served, you are gifted with intuitive abilities beyond reproach. ”
Lorelei’s voice shoots through the room quickly, passionate curiosity ringing in her tone, along with desperation.
“Okay…I hear you when you say I have this ability that isn’t common.
It springs to mind the few times I knew something bad happened to a friend…
or more recently, my father before his death…
that I didn’t have true logical awareness of how I knew it.
But what does the dream actually mean? Is there a sign in it that could help us now? ”
Magnus frowned, taking the tea he made for himself and holding it in his hand, sighing.
“As for that, I have no idea. “Opening” the pyramids is most likely metaphorical, a symbol for something else. I highly doubt it would be literal. Have you tried meditation? Meditation for people with prophetic dreams is a renowned way to channel that energy and perhaps receive insight into the meanings behind the dreams.”
After staying quiet for long enough, despite confirming the suspicion he felt about Lorelei’s abilities, Magnus has done nothing to actually help them with their current predicament.
The knowledge they learned, or lack thereof, was starting to eat away at him.
The anxiety of not knowing if their task was achievable—posed too great a threat.
This didn’t help them, and only wasted more of their time.
Daemon couldn’t help but snap in frustration.
“We don’t have bloody time to meditate, Magnus. Tell us something that will actually help us now. Do you know anything? Any place to start looking for some answers?”
Magnus swallowed fearfully nDaemon felt a tinge of regret.
It wasn’t necessarily Magnus’ fault they were in such a rush, nor was it his fault he didn’t have more answers for them.
Coming here was a long-shot as is, there was no guarantee there would be some great epiphany that handed them a detailed map on what to do or where to go next.
Magnus finally sets his teacup down, taking a moment in silence, eyes closed to divine again. When he opened his eyes, he nodded solemnly.
“There is a place that appears above anything else. But I have no idea what awaits you there or what you might find; if anything.”
Lorelei’s face turned serious, a glimmer of hope peeking behind the mask of uncertainty and fear.
“Where?” Lorelei asked eagerly.
Magnus looked between the two of them, “Stonehenge, my dear.”
Daemon stood.
If that is all he can give us, we need to get a move on.
As he begins to stand, he stops and gives thanks to Magnus the only way he knew how.
“If they come looking for you wondering if we were here, you can tell them I forced it out of you. Considering the circumstances, they'll believe you. You should be safe. Take care, Magnus.”
Daemon waited for Lorelei to stand and they made their way back out the shop door and into the alleyway. It was shifting into late afternoon now and the alley was getting darker.
“I know he didn’t say a lot but at least we know where to go nex–”
Before Lorelei could finish her sentence, Daemon was pulling her back against his chest, one hand over her mouth and the other wrapped tightly around her torso.
Further down the alley, two dark figures were turning around the corner in search of something.
In search of them. He felt Lorelei’s heart beating fast as she too, saw the figures.
Her hands were now over top of his and he knew they had to get out of there.
But in the middle of broad daylight, a busy market nearby filled with people, he couldn’t whip out his wings and fly them to safety.
They’d have to make a run for it. When the figures were around the corner, without a word, he unraveled himself from Lorelei and grabbed her hand, whispering.
“We need to go. Can you keep up?”
Lorelei nodded silently, and he tightened his grip on her hand, sprinting off toward the market crowd, weaving and bobbing between bodies.
Daemon’s mind was racing uncontrollably, he had to get them out-but already, they were drawing attention.
The situation was becoming dicey, but all he could do was put one foot in front of the other, hold onto Lorelei, and run.
I didn’t think they’d find us so soon.
He could smell them coming. Demons. Their scent saturated the air outside the shop. They must’ve come in the shop after them, but didn’t know about the hidden door Magnus had to the other room.
I guess you came in more handy than I thought, Magnus.
Yes, their initial run in with the demons was postponed. Still, it was only a matter of time before they caught up. As he finally got them through the hardest part of the crowd, he looks around for a car to take. Just as he spots one parked nearby, he smells them again.
Spinning around, he sees two demons standing about 100 metres away.
He recognized one of them as Zanul; one of Lucifer’s personal guards.
The other was one he had also seen before but didn’t know his name.
They each had eyes the color of red wine and black smokey rings around their eyes that made them look like they were wearing eyeshadow.
Maybe they were. Zanul had pitch black hair in braids plunging down his back.
Battle ready hair. The other was dressed head to toe in punk-inspired attire that only added to his menacing demeanor.
Zanul was crueler than most, and often enjoyed toying with his victims before releasing them from their suffering.
“Come on!”
He tugged at Lorelei and headed straight for the range rover he spotted, his sense of urgency demanding every fiber of his training to take over; he needed to remain calm; but damned if he didn't panic more about Lorelei's safety in a way that forced him to react uncharacteristically in the company of danger. Daemon felt badly for having to stoop to such methods as stealing a car, but this was life or death. The quicker they got away from the market, the safer it was for everyone there. Demons were not often known to create spectacles of themselves in a public space like this-but with the stakes as high as they were for success, they would do just about anything. Daemon couldn’t risk the humans there, he needed to get them to a safer location to regroup; if only to lead the demons away from the humans in the area. If he didn’t, mass death and destruction would very likely occur.
When they reached the car, he looked back to see the demons racing towards them.
Light on their feet, Daemon heard several humans chastising the demons as they knocked into them, even a small child cried.
People were already starting to notice too much.
He had to act fast—get them out of here.
He focused hard, trying not to panic in front of Lorelei and within another moment, commanded the door to the car to open.
Sitting in the seat and doing the same to start the engine, he was shocked to see Lorelei still hadn’t gotten in the car.
Breathing heavy, he yelled out of the passenger window to her.
“Lorelei! Get in the car!”
She looked back at him pleadingly.
“But we’re stealing this from someone...and…”
“Better to steal a car to hopefully save whoever owns it from desolation than give up by being killed by a bunch of demons because you feel too bad to do so. Now get in!”
The harshness in his voice finally forced Lorelei into the car. Daemon slammed his foot onto the gas pedal and floored it. Checking the rearview mirror, he watched as the demons came to a halt. They wouldn’t risk exposure by running at full speed in front of so many humans, not yet.
Neither spoke for at least half an hour.
He knew he was going way past the speed limit, but he couldn’t take the risk.
He had to make sure they were far enough away so the demons wouldn’t be able to get to them, at least for a little while.
When it felt like the coast was clear, he slowed down a bit, and looked over at Lorelei who was visibly upset.
“Lorelei, I’m sorry we had to steal the car. It was the only way I could keep you safe.”
When she didn’t answer immediately, he felt that lurch in his chest again. But it faded quickly as he heard her voice at last.
“I...I know. I know it had to be done. Thank you for getting me out of there.”
He felt her looking at him, but he remained stoic and focused on the road ahead. The sweetness of her voice made it hard to not look into those bright, blue eyes of hers.
“Do you think Magnus was much help?”
Thankful for the shift in conversation, Daemon relaxed into the seat and nodded.
“Actually, yes. I know he was going out on a limb even telling us that much.”
