Bennett shook his head. “It’ll be a few days.”

“I’m glad we’re trying to figure out more about the coin. I didn’t trust anything Kebe said. Are we sure she’s even a vampire? You guys can tell, right?”

Huxley shrugged. “We can tell she’s not human. The shift in the air we all felt was definitely her. And everything she said made sense. She seems a lot nicer than Callum though, don’t you guys think?”

Everyone nodded.

Well she certainly wasn’t nice to me.

“It’s interesting that she’s from ancient Egypt,” Ace said. “I was talking to her a bit about our curse...”

“We really shouldn’t be talking to a stranger about that,” Bennett said.

“Right. But what she had to say was pretty interesting. We figured we were cursed by either Baset or Sekhmet. But she seemed to really think it was Baset. She’s the goddess of cats but also the goddess of the sun. Apparently Kebe heard tales when she was young about Baset creating werecats to defend while the sun was away. Originally it was to defend the pharaoh. Butthen it morphed into protecting others from evil as well.”

“Evil as in...vampires?” I asked.

“Exactly like vampires. Which is why we all dislike Callum so much. It’s just natural.”

Then why did none of them dislike Kebe just as much?

“That does make sense,” Bennett said.

It seemed like they all agreed that this part of what Kebe said was true. It was only a matter of time before they believed the rest of it. The whole thing just made me feel uneasy.

“Maybe we should have her to dinner,” Titan said.

What?“Why?” I asked.

“So we can ask her more questions about Egypt.”

I was pretty sure he was trying to get a rise out of me on purpose.

“Unless there’s a reason why we shouldn’t get to know her, doll.”

“Oh no,” I said. “By all means. Dine with the enemy. I’m not stopping you.”

He lowered his eyebrows as he stared at me. “You’re the one that stole from us. Doesn’t that make you our enemy?”

“It was part of an elaborate surprise, Titan. And I already tried to apology. I forgave you for what you did to me. Why can’t you forgive me?”

“What you did was much worse.”

I scoffed. “No. What you did was significantly worse. I lied in order to surprise you with a freaking cure. You filmed me without my consent and then blackmailed me.”

“Don’t pretend that you didn’t love every second of that. You spread your thighs for me without a single protest. And you were begging for me to fill you.”

“Well don’t expect me to ever beg you again.”

He laughed. “We’ll see about that. I bet you’re wet right now, just thinking about me.”

“Fuck you.”

“In your dreams, doll.”

If I was a werecat, I would have transformed right here and mauled his stupid face. But I wasn’t a werecat. So I did the next best thing. I picked up my plate and slammed my portion of potpie right in his smug face.

His shocked expression as the plate fell was so satisfying. I’d meant to apologize to him tonight. But seeing his freshly pressed suit dripping with potpie gravy was what he deserved.
