Page 37 of Sharing Shadow Secrets (High Five Novella #6)
L ooking at my email, I’m smiling ear to ear seeing the completed virtual contract for my third account. A dentist of all people. Maybe my newfound knowledge of fangs really left an impression on him. Either way, I have to tell Brandon.
Taylor
Guess who signed a contract with me?
Brandon
I hope it’s the sensory deprivation group so you can hook me up.
Taylor
No. They said I was too expensive. Any other guesses?
Brandon
I don’t know, you’ve been having so many meetings. Maybe the dental office? You seemed really excited about that one.
Taylor
That is correct! And selfishly great since I don’t have dental insurance.
Brandon
You should get that.
Taylor
I’m poor.
Brandon
Maybe find more accounts for things you need lol. One more to go.
Taylor
You better be prepared to drop what you’re doing when the next contract comes in.
Brandon
Smiling, I agree. This is the longest I’ve ever gone without sex in years. It’s been good to hyper focus on my business and clients.
Very mature. Very responsible.
With four clients, I can outsource some of the time-suck stuff that is super important, which will help me have better work life balance.
W ednesday, September 17th
“I need a drink,” Gwen says, tossing her phone into the couch, wearing a baggy T-shirt over bike shorts.
Morgan and I are sitting on the couch in front of the TV in loungewear, both half-watching a reality show.
We look at her and then at each other. We all are eating variations of girl dinner in our living room.
Mine is strawberries, nuts, and popcorn.
Gwen’s is a form of trail mix that involves Cheetos, and Morgan is juicing, aka starving.
My phone lights up.
Kyle
The fangs finally came in.
It’s accompanied by a photo of him in the full costume. “Holy shit,” I breathe, staring at it. Morgan claps her hand, and I toss the phone to her.
“Have you stalked him? Do you know if he’s single?” she asks, still staring at the photo.
“I haven’t stalked him,” I say, now surprised I haven’t, but Brandon’s kinda been all I’ve been thinking about in that way.
“I’m going to stalk him now,” she says, standing from the chair. “I’ll need my laptop for this.”
Gwen returns with a bottle of whiskey in one hand, and a tray with three rocks glasses on it, each with an ice cube. “My roster is empty, and I would like to get drunk. Who’s drinking with me?”
She looks bummed.
“I’ll have a drink with you in solidarity,” I say.
“I need the fuel for my research,” Morgan says.
“Who broke off with who?” I ask Gwen.
“He said he unexpectedly met somebody who he really hit it off with and see’s endgame potential with them …” Gwen trails off, pouring each of us healthy amounts of whiskey. “But I really liked him.”
“We haven’t had a swipe night in like … six months?” Morgan asks.
“You two can swipe. I’m good.”
I have Brandon. Well, whenever I get more business, I’ll have him.
“You got a vampire and a billionaire; you’re great,” Gwen chides.
“What do you mean I have a vampire?”
“You are smiling and drooling every time he texts you.”
“He’s easy to banter with …” I defend, now considering if there’s more there.
