Page 15 of Sharing Shadow Secrets (High Five Novella #6)

A fter a growing pause, I ask, “Why do you work?” I mean, it’s not like he needs to.

“Structure and routine are important to me. I need it more than most people.”

He’s in recovery. That is something I’ll need to consider more if we keep dating.

The server approaches with our appetizer, sliding it onto the table. “Have you decided?” he asks.

We’ve been so wrapped up in conversation, but I order something I know I will like. “The gyro plate.”

“Great. And you?”

“Spanakopita.”

“That is one of our best sellers,” the server says before leaving.

“Don’t tell me you’re a vegetarian too,” I tease, because he did order spinach pie.

“No. I just really like it, especially with a lot of honey on top,” Brandon says, stabbing a piece of feta and then an olive with his fork.

Phew.

“I don’t think I could ever be vegetarian,” I say, picking up an olive from the plate.

“Yeah?”

“I love meat.”

He chuckles, looking down.

“So, you have little boy humor, got it.” I smirk, enjoying this moment.

“No … well, maybe, but I was thinking about that book.”

I tilt my head. “What about it?”

“I’ve never heard the phrase ‘God’s favorite’ before. It’s interesting.”

I giggle, sipping my water. “What’s so interesting about it?”

“It makes it seem … I don’t know, like, a woman is chosen, when in all actuality it’s the other way around. The woman is the one choosing.”

I hum, leaning forward, resting my chin in my available hand on the table. “Are you saying two guy threesomes are the woman’s idea, not the man’s idea?”

“I’m saying guys are not going to be the ones saying no,” he says, lower, sexier.

This is very fucking flirty dinner conversation.

“As someone with experience in these matters, I suppose I should believe you, huh?”

His eyes search mine for a moment. “You’ve never had a threesome?”

“I’d be down, but the opportunity has never presented itself.”

Intrigue reads all over his face. “You need the right people, otherwise it’s awkward.”

“Are you nominating yourself?”

Did I really just fucking ask that?

“I wouldn’t say no to you,” he says with a sly smile.

I giggle nervously, overwhelmed. I’m sweating, literally sweating. Thank God this dress doesn’t have sleeves.

“Our server would make it awkward though,” Brandon says. I think he’s enjoying my discomfort.

I grimace. “Definitely not our server.”

“What’s wrong with him?”

“Bad vibes.”

“Let me know when you find someone with good vibes.”

I release my hand from his, needing to cover my mouth with both hands. No guy has ever seriously talked to me about a threesome before, especially not on a first date.

I guess I’ve historically attracted vanilla guys, then.

“I was not prepared for this conversation,” I say after collecting myself.

“You sure about that?” he asks, confident, tilting his head. “You knew what was in that book and you told me to read it.”

“Would you rather I lied about what book I was reading?”

“You could have protested a little more if you didn’t want me to read it.”

“Wait!” I say, nearly shrill. “Are you saying that the threesome is my idea?”

He nods.

“No! It’s your idea.”

“It’s not my idea to share you.”

I take a sip of my water, combusting from this conversation. “I think we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. We need to at least kiss first.”

Brandon bites his lip, maybe enjoying how frazzled I am. Being God’s favorite. That would be the dream. A dream I didn’t have until reading about it. One where two men worship me. Two mouths, four hands, and two dicks. I take another sip of my water. We are skipping ahead here.
