“Until our father was shot in the back three days before it was due to be finalized. That motherfucker got it handed to him on a silver fucking platter at half of what Dad offered because Savage Entertainment didn’t transfer to us in time for the final signoff.
” My hands tremble, and my heart feels like it’s about to stop beating.
Breathing is becoming impossible. Is this for real?
Kingston? He killed my dad for a deal? Part of me can’t believe it.
I’ve sat in meetings with the man, and he’s always a dick, but I respected him for that.
After all, I’m a dick in business, too. That’s how it’s done in the world of money, skin, and gambling.
This isn’t the type of corporate bullshit you see in most organizations.
In Las Vegas, we might as well be organized crime bosses.
Things are different once you pass that Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
Why now, though? Why would Kingston wait all these years to kill him?
“What does he mean, ‘this is my deal, not yours’?” Kian asks.
Cold sweat gathers at the back of my neck as my pulse races dangerously fast. “It doesn’t matter what it means. What matters is that Kingston is responsible for killing our dad, and now we’re going to destroy him and everything he holds dear to his heart.”
For the last hour, the four of us have been sitting in silence in our father’s library. Ever since we found the message on his phone, we’ve been trying to process it.
I’ve met Kingston. Dozens of times. As my dad’s right-hand man in the business, I’ve been in most of his meetings for the past several years. Kingston is a ruthless businessman, just like my dad was.
Casino businesses might as well be the mafia.
Most of our dealings are on the up and up, but not all of them.
Sometimes, the only way to handle someone stealing from your casino is to make sure they never return to the city.
And sometimes, in order to get ahead, you outbid another casino owner so you can stay the big dog.
Savage Entertainment are the big dogs. We rule Las Vegas.
Which has always pissed off Kingston. Not only did our father win the girl, but he also ran the biggest entertainment business in Nevada.
“Where do we start?” Xander asks, his question directed to me.
Xander is only a couple of years younger, but all my brothers have looked up to me over the years. We all respect and love one another, but as the oldest, being the head of the family falls to me now.
“I don’t just want to kill Kingston. I want him to suffer. He took from us, and now we’ll take from him. Then, when he has nothing left, we’ll bury him six feet under in the middle of the fucking desert.”
I light another cigarette, watching the end burn. I’ll quit one of these days. But not today, and tomorrow isn’t looking good either. Espresso and nicotine are the only two things fueling me at the moment. I can’t remember the last time I ate anything. Nothing is appealing in the slightest.
“Where do we start? His business? His family?” Beckett asks.
“From the sounds of it, his business is already in trouble. We’ll let those cards fall while we figure out what’s going on with it.” I take a long, slow drag from my cigarette, then blow out a string of smoke. “Let’s start with his family. He has two sons. Jordyn and Jacob, if I recall.”
Xander sips his whiskey, and I’m glad he’s taking it easy tonight. I need his head clear. “Don’t they work with Kingston? I’ve never seen them in the public eye.”
“That’s because Kingston is a selfish bastard and only likes the spotlight to be on him.
I’ve met Jacob, though. The guy isn’t a total dick like Kingston but he isn’t super friendly either.
Never met Jordyn. I only know of his name from a newspaper article that was released last year, when Kingston opened his latest casino.
Jacob is his COO, and Jordyn is the CFO. ”
Kian raises an eyebrow, his eyes sparkling. “Well, the chief financial officer would definitely know if they are having money problems. Could kill two birds with one stone. Torture Jordyn Kingston for information before we kill him and send a care package to Kingston.”
Something that feels like a thrill courses through me.
I like Kian’s thinking. Kingston’s sons are his only family.
I can’t say for sure what his relationship is with Jordyn and Jacob, but any father would be devastated if something were to happen to their kids.
We can start with Jordyn, get as much information from him as possible, then move on to Jacob.
And then we’ll ensure that Kingston’s empire crumbles to the ground before we bury him in the rubble.
“Kian, you might be a fucking genius,” I say with a smug smile. “You’re an ugly son of a bitch, but your brains make up for it.”
My brothers snort and laugh while Kian flips me off, and for the first time in too long, it feels like we’re going to be okay. It’s always going to hurt like hell, but we’ll make it.
We have to.
We’re Savages.
We always come out on top.
