It wasn’t until we were back in our dorm room that I was finally able to unleash the hell I’ve been through at the party, and once I started, I wasn’t able to stop. Not even now as Hendrix stares at me with her mouth agape as I tell her how Crayton recorded everything that happened between us at the party.

“How the hell could you let this happen, Bex?!” Hendrix pinches the bridge of her nose, then stops to raise an eyebrow. “And I can’t believe you’re into voyeurism.”

“I am NOT into voyeurism!” I exclaim. “And how the hell couldyoulet this happen? Where did you and Archer go for almost two hours?”

This has the impressed look on her face turn into a big fat gulp of guilt. “I-I’m so sorry, Bex. Seriously.”

“Well, where were you guys? I turned around and you were gone. I needed you.”

Hendrix looks everywhere but at me. “I swear it wasn’t intentional, I just lost track of time. I’m so sorry.”

Why the hell is she evading the damn question?

“Can you just answer me? After all, it was you and Archer who convinced me to go to that stupid party. Then you disappear and leave me to fend for—”

“Archer and I hooked up!” She blurts out, then covers her mouth with her hands.

Wait…

“You mean…”

She blinks. “Yes. We had sex. I’m really sorry we disappeared but we both had a lot to drink and one thing led to another and before I knew it we were hooking up in one of the guest bedrooms.”

I…am at a loss for words. I never ever pictured Archer being Hendrix’s type, and vice versa. They’re like night and day. If night and day was posing as an introverted pencil artist and drama club enthusiast.

The resentment I felt toward them melts away with the look of pure regret on my closest friend’s face. If anyone knows about being swept up in the moment, it’s me.

I just wish my moment didn’t have the ability to becomeeveryone’smoment.

“So…are you guys like a thing, now?” I ask carefully, not wanting her to feel judged, even though she didn’t offer me the same courtesy when I told her about Crayton.

“Nah, it was just a hookup.” Hendrix shrugs, back to being unbothered. “Shit like this happens all the time. We already agreed it was just the heat of the moment and want to remain strictly friends. We just…took a while to finish if you know what I mean.”

Almost two hours straight? Kudos to Archer. Damn.

“Uhm, okay I guess. I don’t want this to mess up our friendship with Archer, though.”

Hendrix reaches over to where I’m sitting next to her on my bed and squeezes my knee. “Trust me, it won’t. I’m not a stranger to casual sex, Bex, neither is Archer.” She pauses. “Things will not be any different as they were before we got to Sampson’s house.”

I feel a bit more relieved knowing that because the three of us have grown extremely close in this short period of time. I don’t want that to be jeopardized by teenage hormones.

Says the girl who jeopardized so much worse for a guy she hates.

“Well, thanks for telling me. I feel better now knowing you two didn’t abandon me.”

“I’m so sorry, Bee. Really.” She pulls me in for a hug. “And I’m sorry for being a judgy bitch about your feelings for Crayton. It was shitty of me. I just really really hate that guy and what he’s been doing to you.”

Join the damn club.

I squeeze her back. “I know you didn’t mean it, emotions are running high today for all of us.” When we break our embrace I reach for my phone on the mattress to text Archer. “Plus, I’m pretty sure having any feelings toward Crayton, other than homicidal ones, makes me a full blown masochist and idiot.”

“You are not an idiot, Bex. You can’t help who you’re attracted to. Even if it is a younger, hot, evil, version of Eminem before he went back to brown hair.”

That comparison really isn’t helping because Eminem is the only rapper I can tolerate, and it’s solely because of how sexy I think he is.

Especially at the 2022 Super Bowl, ugh.
