Page 7 of Ruthless Commander
“That’s it,” Davol urged, sitting at the end of his bed with his legs splayed, between them a woman, bent at the knees and swallowing his cock. She didn’t have much choice.
I glanced at his fisted hand with a mass of her hair, his grip unyielding as he drove her head down on his shaft harder and harder. “Take it all, you fucking cunt.”
She whimpered.
I shot.
The bullet narrowly missed her head as she filled her mouth with all of him. The bullet struck him in the shoulder. He jerked, letting her go as his eyes jerked to mine.
With a roar, he lunged, reaching for the bedside table.
Boom!
The bullet hit the edge of the bed, mere inches from his face. With a cry, he jumped up and scurried across the room toward a dresser.
“You had to know I’d come,” I snarled, and crossed the room toward him.
The woman screamed and lunged for me, but I aimed the gun at her face and shook my head. “Iwillkill you.”
There was madness in her eyes. Maybe a bullet to her brain would be compassionate. But I wasn’t there for her. I was there for him,Davol.
“I warned you.” I swung the muzzle his way again, watching as he cowered against the wall. “I told you to leave my brother alone. But you didn’t listen.”
With no gun and only one way out, he unleashed a roar and hurled himself toward me. The gun was too easy, too simple…toofast.I dropped the weapon and took the brunt of the impact as we fell to the floor.
“I’ll fucking kill you!” he screamed.
I unleashed my fists, driving them into his stomach, hearing thewhooshof his breath.Thump,I drove my fists into his cheek, watching as his head snapped to the side.Thump. Thump. Thump.
Over and over. I was lost in the rhythm.
Lost to the sight of the blood and the broken teeth.
Lost to that spark in his eyes.
That spark I was chasing.
With an unmerciful scream, I hunted that glimmer, driving my fists into his body over and over until there was nothing but silence, nothing more than emptiness. Nothing more than dullness as the glint in his eyes flickered, then died.
The harsh roar of my breaths was the only reality…until I became aware of movement.
My gun, pointed at me.
The woman’s hand trembled as she pointed it. I rose slowly, looking down at the mess, then lifted my gaze to her. There was nothing inside me. No flinch of fear, there wasn’t even rage anymore. Just…nothing.
I slowly reached out and took my gun from her hand. She didn’t fight me, didn’t even say a word.
The thud of a door echoed out in the hall. Rapid footsteps followed, slipping away. “You’re safe now. He can’t hurt you ever again.”
I left her there, stepping over the body of the man who'd come for my brother and found me instead. There was no sign of the wolf as I made my way out of that house and back into the night. There was only the moonlight, only the night…only the promise of a new beginning. One I’d killed for.
I climbed back into the car and started the engine, and this time I hit the headlights, making my way home by the muted glow. By the time I pulled back into the driveway, my stomach was trembling and clenching. The heady stench of blood was sickening, driving acid into the back of my throat as I lunged from the car.
Acid splashed on the ground as I braced my hand against the side of the car.
The burn stung my nose. Still, I stayed there, heaving and retching while my eyes watered and I gasped.
It wasn’t the thought of the blood that made me weak, it wasn’t knowing what I’d become.
