Page 13 of Reckless Knight (Knight's Ridge Empire 7)
My body burns as his kiss continues, and I am fucking here for it.
Everything around us vanishes as I lose myself in him, realising that I probably made a mistake not taking him up on his offer for more tonight, but equally knowing it was the right thing to do.
A few minutes later, I reluctantly pull away, but he only lets me move an inch.
Opening my eyes, I gasp at the hunger staring back at me.
“What I wouldn’t give for another night with you, Demon.”
I swallow thickly in an attempt to stop myself from begging for exactly that.
Keep your head, Jodie.
“Soon,” I promise.
His brow rests against mine, his eyes still holding mine captive.
“Call me if you need anything.”
“Anything?” I ask, quirking my brow.
“Anything,” he confirms.
“I should probably…” I point over my shoulder.
“One more.” He has our lips together before he even finishes talking.

That one kiss turned into many as we both kept caving to our need to continue. But as much as I expected him to up the ante, he never did. I’m not sure if I’m impressed with his willpower or disappointed that I couldn’t shatter it. I can’t deny that I was all for another cheeky grope to feel exactly what I was doing to him. And I know he was hard, because even in the dim light of the front of his car, I could see the bulge in his jeans.
Eventually, he lets me escape, and I walk toward our front door on shaky legs.
After stepping inside, I wave him off and shut myself inside before I change my mind.
I’ve barely got my coat off when I feel my phone buzz.
A smile twitches at my lips as my heart begins to race.
Toby: Thanks for the second best night of my life.
I can’t help but laugh.
Jodie: Thank you for being exactly what I needed. Again.
With a smile still playing on my lips and my skin still tingling with desire from his kiss and innocent touch, I kick my boots off and head deeper into the house.
The last thing I want to do after the past few hours is check in on Mum and have my reality come crashing down around my feet, but I know I don’t have a choice.
“Fuck, Mum,” I gasp the second I push the door open and find her curled up in a ball on the floor beside her bed, still clutching a bottle of vodka. The bottle of vodka I clearly didn’t do a good enough job of hiding in the freezer. “Mum?” I ask as I flip on the light. But she doesn’t react.
Stepping up to her, I pull the bottle from her hands, discovering that she hasn’t actually drunk all of it because she’s sopping wet.
“Jesus Christ,” I mutter, my entire body aching to walk back out of the house and get back into Toby’s car, demanding he take me away from all of this and forget it all exists.
“Mum,” I shout, taking her cheeks in my hands. “I need you to wake up and help me.” But it does nothing.
Tucking my hands under her armpits, I suck in a deep breath and haul her from the floor before sliding her onto the bed.
