Story: Read the Room

The Aftermath

Later that Same Morning…

I held the bridge of my nose as if that would immediately stop the headache that threatened to take me out in the moment.

I sat in my office at one of our warehouses that housed some of our motorcycle inventory with Sully, Joey, and Tuck.

Tuck had just finished giving us the details about last night, and I wasn’t pleased at all.

“I swear some of y’all niggas ain’t good for shit,” Sully grumbled.

“Bro, I promise we have one brain,” I said to him. My eyes trained on Tuck. “Alright, so Emmitt wasn’t alone, which ain’t shit. That’s just an extra body. What I’m trying to understand is why there wasn’t an extra body? When clean-up got there, they said that it was only one fuckin’ body.”

Tuck rubbed his hand down his face. “Man, AK, I had to get the hell out of there. I didn’t check to make sure they were dead, and that’s my bad. I just assumed they both were because of how I lit them up.”

“What the hell was going on that you didn’t have fuckin’ time to check to see if a nigga you were sent to lay down was actually laid down? Make this shit make sense, Tuck. I promise you don’t want me to show you how it’s done with ya lopsided baby mama as the presentation dummy.”

I chuckled at Sully’s ignorant ass. He knew that Tuck loved his ho ass baby mama.

Tuck dropped his head. Joey’s head was on a continuous slow shake. That was who I should have sent to do the job. I wanted to keep his hands as clean as I could. When Tuck let out a long ass huff, I knew he was about to say something else that we wouldn’t like.

“Man, when I was killing them niggas, one of the server girls came in there. She saw the whole thing. I didn’t mask up or no shit, so she saw my face.”

There’s no way this boy is serious right now.

In one movement, I stood from my seat, moved to Tuck, and punched him dead in his shit.

“A missing body and a witness. If you wanted to go move with your mama in the afterlife, that’s all you had to say dumb ass.”

I let my anger guide my hand to my gun, the gun to his head, and my finger to the trigger. Pow! When I looked at Sully, he wore an expression I knew too well.

“So, you couldn’t wait until we found out who the the bitch was? He just had to go see his mama right now?” He got on the phone with the clean-up crew to get Tuck’s body out of here.

Joey stifled his laughter. I waved Sully off before I told Joey to get GeGi and bring her ass here.

GeGi was our best girl at Glitter Girls and was always down for a lick if it meant a better life for her and her kids.

She was a good girl that got caught up. She was also a friend of Alexi’s if you wanted to call her that.

I never understood that friendship since my girl talked so much shit about GeGi.

“Sully, I’m getting too old for this stupid shit,” I groaned out. “I swear I just want to chill. I don’t know how Geo did this shit into his sixties. That for damn sure won’t be me.”

Sully laughed. “Nigga, you act like your ass is forty or something. You’re just shy of thirty.” He continued to lightly laugh. “I feel you though. Why the hell you think I keep Joey at my side?”

I understood exactly why he asked. When Joey wasn’t at Sully’s side, he was at mine.

We wanted him to focus on his education and money management for now.

He just opened his first business, which was a gaming café.

It operated off membership. The café had two separate sides that were specified by age group.

When he thought about the café, he recognized the risk of undesirable relationships building between grownups and teenagers.

He wanted to give parents a guarantee that their teens were safe when there.

Both sides had security. There was also a program for the teenagers with good grades.

They received a discounted membership as long as they maintained their good grades.

Sully and I were proud of him to the point of being silent investors who wanted no ownership percentage.

We just wanted to be a blessing. One day, if Joey stayed solid, he would have the keys to the city if he wanted them.

It took an hour and a half for him to come back with a nervous GeGi. By the time she got here, the clean-up crew had gotten Tuck out of here, and the floor was cleaned.

“Hi, Sully and AK. Joey said that you wanted to see me.”

“What time your flight leave?” I asked her. GeGi was moving back to Virginia where she was from.

When we came to her about this set up, I asked her what she wanted.

She was very specific about her request. She let us know that she wanted to get away from her child’s father.

Her request was for us to pay a year of rent for a fully furnished apartment and to give her twenty thousand cash to hold her over so that she could find a job that didn’t require her to shake her ass.

Sully and I respected her request because her baby’s father was this old dude who was a bitch.

GeGi came to Charlotte for college and got caught up with a fuck nigga.

After two kids, she had been trying to get away from him.

After Sully and I consulted, we did her one better.

I reached out to the real estate firm that I used for a majority of my properties, Broughton Real Estate Firm .

I had them find me a three-bedroom townhouse with a nice sized fenced in backyard in Virginia close to her parents.

They came through with a very nice property, which Sully and I bought outright.

GeGi didn’t know that yet, but she would find out when she got there and met with the agent. We also gave her the twenty thousand that she asked for. As an added bonus, I wanted to make sure she wouldn’t have to fall back on stripping, even though she was amazing at it.

While Alexi talked shit about her one night, she made it known that GeGi wanted to open a pole studio and even had a business proposal drawn up.

When I told Sully about it, he thought that it would be a great business to invest in.

We planned to give GeGi three months to settle in before we paid her a visit to let her know that we would invest in her business by fronting everything for 60 percent of the business for five years.

After five years, we’d drop our percentage to forty for three additional years.

After that, it would be hers, free and clear.

“Um, it leaves at five this evening. The movers have already gotten everything that I wanted from my apartment, and I donated the furniture to a battered women’s shelter. We’ve been staying at a hotel near the airport,” she let us know.

Her kid’s father had been on the prowl for her from what I heard. You would think it was to take care of his children, but it wasn’t. Dude wasn’t even on the birth certificates.

“Is there something wrong?”

Sully shook his head. “Nah, you haven’t done anything wrong. Some shit went left the other night. I need to know who the other nigga was with Emmitt and what server worked that room.”

“Oh, wow!” she said with wide eyes. “I did what I was told to do and left. I just assumed everything was good. Um, the other guy said his name was Juan.”

Her feet shifted for a moment.

“Tsireya, um Reya, she was on the room. Yeah, I always ask her to take my guests back regardless of who has the rooms because she’s the only bitch in there that I trust not to be on some grimy shit.”

Sully started to tap on the keyboard to pull up our employment records. In preparation for the setup, we turned selected cameras off as a precaution. That was the only reason we couldn’t verify by the camera feed.

“Tsireya Robinson. I got her address right here.”

“Bet! Joey, get her. Bring her to the spot. Sit on her until we get there,” I instructed.

He left after he got the address from Sully. GeGi stood there like she had something else to say. After a few beats of silence, she spoke.

“AK, um, I feel like you should know that Alexi is cheating on you.”

My brow arched. I snickered, not because I didn’t believe her, but because I felt like she’d just given me my way out of this relationship without feeling like a fuck boy. That apartment I planned to set up for her was a wrap.

“How you know this?”

“Well, I got a text from, Meka, who’s in Paris with her. The text had some pictures attached.” She pulled her phone out then began tapping on the screen. “I guess since I backed out of the trip, she thought it was a good idea to have Carlos drop in.”

She tittered as she shook her head.

“Carlos? Your kids’ father?” I asked for clarity. There was no way that she said old ass Carlos. This nigga was in his early fifties.

She didn’t respond as she handed me her phone.

It was paused at the beginning of a video.

By the time I pressed the play icon, Sully stood beside me.

We watched my girl on her knees sucking GeGi’s babies’ daddy off.

I almost lost my lunch when she dipped between his legs and ate his ass like it was an organic grocery store haul.

When I peeked at Sully, his eyes were bucked.

“Yeah, she got me fucked up,” I commented about the video. I handed the phone back to GeGi. “Thank you for that. Good looking out.”

Her head went down in a small bow. Her eyes glazed over. “I thought I would be hurt, but I’m relieved. It was more of a reason to get the hell out of here so me and my babies could be happy. Thank you so much for everything, Sully and AK.”

“Nah, it ain’t shit. Thank you,” Sully responded. “Make sure you take care of yourself and your babies, Georgia Giovanni.”

She kissed her teeth at him using her government name. She hated her name, hence the nickname GeGi. Joey already had someone ready to take her back home. See, he’s a forward-thinking young man.

“What you gonna do about that shit?” Sully asked. “That shit is crazy. I’d straight murk Simone’s ass.”
