Story: Read the Room
What just happened? I asked a question but was left with more questions and a wet pussy.
I watched his back move toward the front door then out of it.
Lo’ak was a man that kept me on my toes.
He was the second man that I had been in a relationship with.
I wasn’t sure if I should have counted Kevin.
I guess it was more of Lo’ak was the second male but first real man.
I loved him long before I told him, but I was nervous to tell him.
After he disciplined Lucas when he hit me and the way that he did it, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I wanted him in my life forever.
Did I tell him in a timely fashion to try to persuade him about the meeting with my mother?
Yes. Did it work? Not like I thought that it would. I had to pull out the big guns.
I did learn a very important lesson that night.
Free will was in fact expensive. When the price of free will was my pussy and the tender was Lo’ak’s dick, my credit was maxed out.
After I paid for it, I thought it would be enough for him to feel alright with me meeting my mother.
He promptly told me that nothing had changed about his decision.
The next morning, I put my jaws and suction to work to get what I wanted.
In hindsight, I wished I would have listened to his initial no.
The meeting was a complete fucking disaster.
Lakeisha had become no better of a person with age than she was when I was younger.
In my mind, she was even more of a repugnant person than she was before.
This woman said that I should forgive Logan for hollering at me.
I never in all my years of living knew that rape and hollering at someone was an interchangeable action.
That entire lunch had my mind fucked up.
Like the amazing man he was, Lo’ak said something to Mama Bee, who took the time to come over with Simone to spend the night with me.
I never knew I needed that until I had it.
That night, she did simple things that my mother never did like washing and braiding my hair in a fishtail braid.
After my grandmama died, my neighbor did my hair out of pity until I was ten when she taught me how to do a wash and go twist-out because she was moving.
Over the years, I learned how to do my natural hair from YouTube tutorials.
I wasn’t sure if I should have been ashamed to say that I’ve never sat in a stylist’s seat to get my hair done.
If my hair wasn’t worn in a twist out, I had it in a crochet style or braids that I did myself.
Simone, Mama Bee, and I sat around talking, laughing, eating, and just loving on each other. Simone was the first woman that I considered a real friend. Lucas was now Mama Bee’s grandbaby, and Simone, Sully, Joey, and Ethan’s nephew. That was more than he would ever be to Lakeisha.
Since we’d left the restaurant that we had lunch at, she had tried to reach out to me.
It was sad that this thirty-nine-year-old woman was so childish.
My eyes fell on my phone that buzzed on the couch beside me.
Speaking of the silly bitch. She had resorted to creating fake profiles since I blocked her on social media.
I opened the message because I wanted to be entertained by a clown.
FlyGirl_KeshBabe: Lil bitch you need to bring me my money. My man is about to be on y’all ass with your broke, robbing asses.
There was no way that this stupid girl was hurting for that money. If she wanted to stay in contact with me, that was all she had to say. She had a lot of time on her hands.
ReyaPrettyBaby_Love: You can’t be serious right now. You’re hurtin’ for less than three hundred dollars. Bitch it was a one-hundred-dollar bill, five twenties, and a bunch of ones. That’s not lace, that’s Velcro. Get out of my inbox before I get my nigga on your ass.
The bubbles came up that indicated she was typing. I allowed her ninth grade literacy skills to work for her while I went back to reading. After what felt like ten minutes the message came through.
FlyGirl_KeshBabe: Bet bitch. I’ll be seeing you.
Maybe she got distracted. There was no way it took her that long to type six words.
I couldn’t be bothered with the malarkey.
I took the time to block the profile before I continued with my reading.
I finished all of my schoolwork yesterday because I knew that I wanted to relax today.
At some point during my reading, I fell asleep.
“Mama! Mama!” Lucas’s little voice woke me from my sleep.
I didn’t open my eyes until I felt his little lips kiss my cheek. I leaned to the side and wrapped my arms around him to pull him on top of me. His head flew back with his laughter.
“What are you doing, lil boy?” I kissed all over his handsome face. “Where is Ethan?”
He calmed his laughing down. “Daddy got me from Grammie Bee today.”
He slid off me to stand on his feet. I sat up with raised brows. This was a new development. I grabbed Lucas’s hand in mine.
“Baby, who is daddy?”
Lucas’s little eyes got smaller. His cute little button nose scrunched.
“Mama, Daddy right there.” He pointed behind me.
When I spun around, Lo’ak stood there with a smile. This man was so fucking fine. There was a thumping in my nether region. “I can’t be my boy’s daddy now?”
“No! Of course, you can.” My cheeks warmed. “I was just surprised since I never heard him call you that before.”
His head bobbed with acknowledgement before he walked around the couch. He stood over where I sat on the couch.
“That’s understandable. Well, I asked him today if I could be his daddy.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out what looked like… like a ring box!
Oh, is this really happening? It is!
He opened the box then got down on one knee. I tittered at Lucas when he got down on a knee too. He was in a monkey see, monkey do phase.
“I figured I would ask him if I could be his daddy before I asked you to be my wife.”
I jumped up from the couch with my hand over my mouth.
“Are you serious? You want to marry me!”
He chuckled. “Yes. I want you to officially be Mrs. Jordan. Tsireya Robinson, are you going to let me change you and Jedi’s last name?”
My tears flowed freely like the love in my heart. Just that fast, doubt eclipsed it.
“Are you sure you want to marry me? We haven’t been together long. You were with Alexi for years, and you never asked her to marry you.”
“Are you really going to think about another bitch in the moment that I’m on my knee asking you to marry me?
” The tightness of his face told me that he was not pleased.
“Reya, I never asked her to marry me because I never loved her. I can’t explain this love shit, but I know I love you, need you, and want you two to be my forever. Can I have that with you?”
My baby boy held up his hand like he had something in it. “Yeah, Mama. Have it with us.”
“Of course, I’ll have it with you two.”
I held my hand out, and he placed the ring on my finger. Once it was on, I lifted my hand and looked at it. It was gorgeous and probably cost more than everything that I had ever owned.
I was knocked out of my thoughts by Lo’s strong arms wrapping around me. “I love your ass, Tsireya. Happy as fuck that I had Joey nice-nap you.”
I giggled before I kissed his lips. Two little hands tried to pull us apart.
“Ew! Nasty, Mama, Daddy!”
Lo glared down. “Damn, I can’t kiss my woman? That’s cold blooded.”
Almost three-year-old little eyes beamed back at him. “She my mama. Cold blooded.”
No further confirmation was needed when he ran off.
I smirked at my fiancé, then said, “That’s your son. No take backs.”
I stuck my tongue out at him.
“Yeah, that’s my boy, and I’m gonna put my lil girl in you at some point.” His lips pecked mine. “You have the ring. Now, we’re going to, at the least, go to the courthouse. You can take your time to plan the wedding, but I need you to have my last name by the end of the week.”
My eyelids stretched to make room for my bulging eyes. “End of the week! How are we going to do that? I still want to look cute.”
“So, now you’re trying to play me. I got all that covered.
You have a shopping and spa date with Simone and Mama Bee tomorrow.
After the judge pronounces us husband and wife, the photographer will be there for our official photoshoot.
” Arrogance was written on his face. “We about to make these niggas and bitches sick.”
We Married Now…
I couldn’t believe that I married Lo’ak Jordan.
I was Mrs. Tsireya Jordan. I love it here.
Just like he said, he thought of everything.
The day after his proposal, Mama Bee, Simone, and I flew to New York to buy my outfit, Lo’ak’s ring, and have our spa day.
Anxiety and fear ate me up because it was my first time on a plane.
Simone gave me an edible, and I was asleep before takeoff.
On the morning of our courthouse union, a glam squad came to the house. They did my hair and makeup. I felt more beautiful than I could ever remember.
Simone, Sully, Joey, Ethan, Mama Bee, and our baby Lucas were our witnesses.
Like he promised, the photographer was there for a photoshoot at the courthouse.
The white pants suit that I wore with the to-die-for red bottoms made me feel like a bad bitch.
Lo’ak loved the band that I picked out. Afterward, we all went to a restaurant that Lo’ak bought out for a private dinner reception.
I was nervous about that because Jeremy was still out there. The event was heavily guarded.
“These are so beautiful,” Simone complimented.
