Story: Read the Room
We were going through the edited pictures from the photographer.
The shots that I loved the most were the candid shots that he captured.
There were shots of me and Lo’ak, Lo’ak and Lucas, Lo’ak with his boys, and me with Mama Bee and Simone.
There were so many pictures. Lo’ak had already picked the ones that he wanted to have blown up and framed in our house.
We decided that even after the Jeremy threat was over that we would stay in this house at least until I was pregnant.
I loved it here, and Lucas loved all of the open space to run.
Lo’ak had been talking about getting a few puppies.
I wasn’t sure why it had to be a few and not one.
He promised to have them professionally trained. That made me feel better.
“I know right! Do you think I’ll be a good wife?” There went that doubt again. I didn’t know what was wrong with me.
Simone’s smile softened with her eyes.
“You’re going to be a great wife. No, you won’t always get everything right. Trust me,” she said with a chuckle. “The most important lesson that I’ve learned about marriage was to keep God in the middle, listen for understanding, patience, trust, and make sure you leave that nigga’s nuts empty.”
My mouth fell agape with my gasp before I erupted with laughter.
There was nothing that I could say because her ass was right.
I stayed on Lo’s dick since the first time he gave it to me.
If it wasn’t for my birth control, we’d be expecting now.
We agreed that I would wait until after our wedding which we slated for our one-year anniversary for me to remove my birth control.
“Alright, bitch. Which one are you going to post to announce yourself as Mrs. Jordan? Let’s get the streets mad.” Simone was just as excited as I was to post our wedding pictures.
Simone thought it was too basic to just post pictures.
She was a graphic designer by trade, so she took the five pictures that we chose and made a slide show video complete with music.
After the hours it took for her to complete the video, I was in tears with the pure beauty of it.
I just wanted to post the pictures, but she made it a masterpiece.
Lo’ak gave me strict instructions to make sure I tagged him when I made the post.
I felt like the caption didn’t need to be anything special. I’d let the slideshow do the work. Let’s get them made.
ReyaPrettyBaby_Love: Now We Are One! Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Lo’ak Jordan. @Lo_Armageddon_Jo
Almost immediately, notifications started to flood in. Simone took the video and posted it on the Glitter Girls social media page as well. As I watched the notifications, the first one that caught my attention was from my very own husband. My heart swooned.
Lo_Armageddon_Jo: I love you forever. You’re mine and I’m yours.
A public confession of his love for me on social media.
These days it took a post on social media to validate that something was real, unfortunately.
A lot of people saw Lo and I in public at Joey’s party, but that didn’t mean anything.
Now that we had posted our relationship on social media, we were serious.
The comments ranged from “congratulations” to “wows” to one very particular “you married that bum bitch?” I didn’t need to see the profile to know who that one came from.
That comment was on the Glitter Girls page because she was blocked from my personal page.
My eyes rolled before I put my phone down.
“Simone, you staying for dinner? I’ll tell Ethan to pick up SJ when he gets Lucas.”
“Girl, if you’re cooking that good ass shrimp scampi, then hell yeah, I’m staying.” Simone loved my cooking just as much as Lo and the guys did.
At one point, I thought I wanted to be a chef. Once I realized that cooking wasn’t my passion, it was just something that I was great at, I changed my mind.
“I got you.” I let out a low laugh as I got up from the table that we were sitting at.
It wouldn’t take long for the shrimp to thaw.
We still had a few hours before it was time for the boys to be on their way home.
I had better make enough for everyone. I’ll start cooking when they’re on their way home.
Hours Later…
Simone and I were on the couch falling over in laughter at a comedy television show when we heard the beep from the front door unlocking.
I got off the couch to meet my boys at the door.
When it opened, I expected to see my baby boy and his cousin running in.
Instead, it was Lo’ak, Sully, and Joey, who all had evil stares in their eyes.
“Baby? Hey. Where are the boys?”
He came over to me. There was something about his expression that I couldn’t read, but something told me that I didn’t want to. I found it difficult to read the room. He cupped my face in the palms of his hand.
“Baby, we have to go to the hospital.”
“Why do we have to go to the hospital?” Simone was on her feet. “Sully, where is SJ?”
