Caine could be invisible when he wanted to be. It was his forte.
“You got it.”
I hung up as we waited. Diego did a good job, concealing the car behind another parked car as we watched Sailor get behind the wheel, her attention on her phone. It didn’t take her long and she started the car.
“Let the games begin,” I announced.
We followed her for two hours before Diego started grumbling. “Where the fuck is she going? To No Man’s Land? This is like the wild, wild west.”
I scoffed. “Far from it. We’re still in Maryland.”
“Madre de Dios, who’d want to live here?” Diego complained.
“Well, apparently about three hundred thousand people want to live in Western Maryland,” I snickered.
“Idiots,” Diego retorted.
“Don’t lose the woman,” I warned, noting the distance between her car and ours getting longer.
Ignoring whatever else Diego was muttering under his breath, I dialed Nico. He answered on the second ring.
“Raphael, what can I do for you?”
It was what I liked about the man. No bullshit.
“I need you to pin your location to Sailor McHale.”
His deep chuckle came through the line. “You lost her already?”
“No.” It wasn’t like I’d share with him that she’d kicked me in the fucking balls. “Please keep any incoming threats or inquiries on her monitored.”
“I’m guessing the explosion in D.C. has something to do with her.”
“Santiago Tijuana posted bail.”
“Fuck.”
“Yes, fuck,” I agreed with the sentiment.
“They’ll be after her. She can’t be out there on her own,” Nico grumbled.
I completely agreed. “I’m tailing her, but I want to be aware of anyone else that might be on her.”
“Give me five minutes. I’ll drop an app into your phone. You’ll be able to see everything I do in connection with her.”
“Excellent. Thank you.”
True to his word, my phone dinged and what do you know. The little Miss Sunshine’s end destination flashed on my phone. It would seem we’d find ourselves in the Appalachian mountains.
“We’re going to be enjoying some Appalachian views,” I told my men.
“Normal women run to the beach,” Diego grumbled. “But we couldn’t get one of those.”
I could already tell Diego loved the mountains.
