Page 102 of Raphael
I held his gaze, studying him. A muscle in his jaw tightened.
“A few of my businesses have been blown up,” he finally answered.
“Who did it?”
Something dark and ruthless passed his expression. “We are not sure yet.”
I’d bet my life he had an idea of who it was. Yet, he refused to say it. Could it be that maybe my father and Santiago Tijuana were retaliating?
“Is it Santiago?” I breathed my question. “Or my father?”
“My intel says neither one of them nor their men have been spotted in Miami.”
He said before he had many enemies, but the timing was peculiar. Too close to everything else happening.
“Are you lying to me?” I asked him quietly.
“No.” He was.
“So why keep me stuck here?”
He didn’t answer and I shook my head in disappointment. I wished I didn’t care, yet I did. Too much.
I shifted away and the moment I stepped away from him, my entire body screamed in protest. But certain things you just couldn’t let a man dictate. And he certainly wouldn’t dictate my freedom. I reached for my discarded clothes and started getting dressed.
The silence was even more deafening after what we’d just shared. I could hear the drum of my heartbeat and the ticking of a cuckoo clock.
I turned to face him and our gazes met.
“I want to leave the island,” I demanded quietly, my voice soft and languid, all those sensations still swimming through my veins.
“No.”
Fuck. This. Shit. “I want to end this,” I breathed.Liar.I didn’t want to end it; I wanted more of him.
“You tired of me?” he asked, his voice dangerously calm.
“That’s not the point, Raphael,” I reasoned with him. “But you can’t keep us here forever. It’s a prison sentence.”
“I say when you can leave,” he gritted.
Anger flared within me. All those wonderful feelings of just moments ago, gone in a flash. An annoyance that he’d think he could lock me down like that replaced them in an instant. “You said this was temporary.”
His jaw ticked, a pissed off expression flashing in his eyes. “Nothing about us is temporary. And I’d never said it was temporary. You assumed it was.”
“You- you…” I couldn’t find the right word to call him. “If that’s how it’s going to be, I want a divorce.”
“There will be no divorce from me, Reina. If you’re tired of me. Go to bed,” he told me with a smirk. “We’ll try again tomorrow.”
“It’s fucking three in the afternoon,” I pointed out annoyed. “I’m not the napping kind.”
His lips tugged up. “Maybe you can start taking naps. After all, I hear it’s good for pregnant women.”
“I. Am. Not. Pregnant.” My teeth clenched so hard that my jaw hurt. “And I’m staying on the pill.”
My husband didn’t seem perturbed by my anger. “Soon. We’ll work on it tonight, shall we Reina? For now, obey me. Trust me to keep you and Gabriel safe.”
My body temperature spiked at least a hundred degrees. At this very moment, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to murder my husband or fuck him again.
