I screw my face up, ready to cuss him out, but the line goes dead, and I look down at my phone and see he ended the call.Asshole.
Busying myself for the next twenty minutes, I do some yoga stretches and listen to Lzzy Hale screaming through my speakers. Her voice is fucking amazing, and some of her lyrics resonate with me.
Finishing up, I snatch my stuff off my bed, ignoring the ants crawling under my skin and my need to swallow another pill. It’s getting worse; my addictions are festering on my withered and fractured soul.
I need to get a hold of it, but I can’t find it in me to give a shit right now. My eyes flick to my mom’s diary sitting on the table and I wish I could spend the day reading instead of practicing dance moves and sneaking around with Kenzi.
Shaking my head, I move down the stairs and out the door to my pink Porsche. Once the gate is closed, I crawl down the street until I pull up at Justyce’s. The gate opens, and Kenzi gives Justyce a quick kiss before running down the stairs, her midnight-blue hair whipping around her as he watches from the doorway.
When she slides into my car, she offers him a quick wave, then turns to smile at me. “Hey, girlie, you ready?”
“To have my ass reamed? Not particularly, but I’ll take one for the team. This will be more than worth it,” I snicker, scratching at my skin.
Kenzi catches the movement but doesn’t voice what I see reflected in her electric blue hues. I turn away, ashamed but not willing to change anything.
“So where to?”
“We will head to the shopping complex first because I know Justyce will have us tailed. We will lose them and then head to Arcane to begin our rehearsals.”
“Sounds good to me,” she replies, a grin lifting her lips at the sides.
I weave through the traffic until we reach a big shopping mall. One flick to look in the rearview mirror solidifies that I was right. Justyce asked one of his cronies to follow us, but he forgets who I am and how I can lose anyone if I want to.
Slamming it into second, I dart through the traffic lights, knowing they’re about to turn red. I glance back in the mirror and see the guy slam his brakes on and smash his fist against the steering wheel.
Smirking, I head underground, out the other side, and out of the parking lot, speeding off down the street and away from the tail Justyce had put on us. That was easier than I suspected it would be.
I must still be smirking because Kenzi pipes up after being quiet for the last few minutes and scrolling through her phone.
“What are you so happy about?”
“I was right.”
“About?”
“Justyce putting a tail on us.”
Her head snaps over her shoulder to look out the back window, but all she’ll find are vehicles with civilians, not hired muscle.
She turns back around, and I see her looking at me from my peripheral. “You didn’t think to let me in on that?”
“Nope. Because you would have done exactly what you’ve just done and notified them we knew,” I say matter of factly, and she groans.
“I’ve got a lot to learn. Teach me, oh wise one,” she snickers, and I roll my eyes.
For the next fifteen minutes, we talk about tonight, and Kenzi fills me in on what her plans are. She is going to drive Justyce to the brink of insanity, and I can’t wait to see it.
I know my brother; he will let it play out because he’ll want to punish her for it after. Sick, twisted, and a little sadistic, but one glance at Kenzi as I pull into the parking lot tells me everything I need to know. She fucking thrives off it.
Shaking my head, I lower my window as I see Sniper stomping toward the car.
He leans in with a smirk on his face. “Miss Raine and Miss Kenzi.”
“Hey you,” I coo. “So I need a favor. You can’t tell Justyce we’re here.”
He raises a dark eyebrow at me. “Why not?”
“Because I’m going to dance tonight, and I want him to lose his fucking mind like he makes me lose mine. That’s why,” Kenzi retorts, then bats her eyelashes.
