Page 51 of Raine
“And Raine?” Justyce calls, looking over his shoulder at me while still holding Arrow’s hand. “Go see Kenzi. She’ll have something you can wear.”
Tears sting the back of my eyes but I don’t allow them to fall. Instead, I hitch my chin up high and walk out of the room slowly, even though every nerve in my body wants me to break out in a sprint to get away from their watchful eyes.
Shame is a powerful emotion, one I feel often, and with the way Arrow was looking at me moments ago, paired with the pill waning in my system, I feel ten times worse than what I did before I began this fucked up night.
I walk down the hallway and avoid the kitchen because I don’t want to see a heartbroken Olga. I don’t have it in me to console her, not when I can barely tame my own emotions. What gives me the right to try to wrangle someone else’s when I can’t even handle my own shit?
Walking toward the dark floating staircase that leads to Justyce’s second floor, I grip the glass railing and step up onto the first step, a breath leaving my lips as I make my accent upward.
I wander down the hallway until I reach the master bedroom and knock on the door. After a minute or so, Kenzi opens it, her eyes going wide before she glances over my shoulder.
“Just you?”
My brows cave in confusion. “Uh, are you expecting anyone else?”
“No. Get inside. I have a favor to ask you.”
“First, I need one from you.”
Kenzi ushers me inside and closes the door. When she turns around, her eyes go wide when she realizes what I’m wearing.
“Let me guess, you need some clothes?”
“That obvious?”
She laughs. “I think you look smoking, but I can see the boys being uncomfortable. Let me grab you some yoga pants and a shirt; give me a second.”
I watch as she walks off, feeling awkward standing in Justyce’s room when I notice the underbed restraints on display.
Turning away, I focus on a safer option, the French doors. Kenzi saunters out a minute later with a pair of black yoga pants and a white off-the-shoulder shirt.
“These ok?” she asks, holding them up to show me.
“Perfect. You mind if I get dressed here?”
“Go for it. Not like I haven’t seen tits and ass before,” she laughs, and I smirk, the heaviness I was feeling waning a little.
I shimmy out of the red catsuit, balling it up, and then throw on the clothes Kenzi gave me. She walks back in from the balcony a couple of seconds later, and I realize I didn’t even notice her walk out.
I throw my hair up in a messy bun and use the tie I had around my wrist earlier in the day. When I’m finished, I look at Kenzi expectantly, curious as to what she could possibly need from me.
She chews on the inside of her cheek, her eyes flicking to the door then back to me. “Sooooo… the favor I mentioned.”
“Go on. You know, if it’s in my power, I’ll do it for you.”
She nods her head, bringing her fingers to her mouth, and chews on the nail. “You have a show tomorrow, right? I heard Justyce on the phone to you this morning.”
“Yeah,” I say, folding my arms over my chest and leaning on the wall. “What about it?”
“I want in.”
“What?”
“I want to dance.”
“Come on, Kenz, you know Justyce won’t go for this.”
Her eyes harden, her stance stoic when she straightens. “That’s why it’s a favor.”
