CADEN

“ A rgh,” Caden groaned as he slowly lifted his head off the kitchen table. His arm was soaked from his spilled beer, and his neck was feeling tight as fuck—most likely from passing out at a weird angle.

Rubbing the back of his neck, he looked around the kitchen. The lights were still on, and it was still dark outside.

Raising his left arm, he glanced at the watch he wore—yes, he was one of those guys who used a watch to tell time.

Ten thirty p.m.

Good, he hadn’t been out for that long. He was guessing that he’d only passed out for about two and a half hours.

Staring at the untouched dinner sitting across from him, he cursed. “Fuck!”

Caden got to his feet, still feeling groggy and disoriented. He grabbed his keys and rushed out back, hoping against all hope that he would find Lucas still standing in his backyard.

The place was empty.

He stumbled around the house and jumped onto his motorcycle. He wasn’t in the best condition to drive, but this was an emergency, and Lucas’s life was in danger. He needed to get to the guys.

Shoving the keys into the bike, he pressed the start button and listened to the beast roar to life.

The cycle was louder than usual as if sensing that it needed to perform at its optimum that night.

Its master’s love was in danger, and the beast had one job to do—get her owner to his destination in record time.

Connecting his phone to Bluetooth, Cade said Marcus’s name out loud, activating the voice call on his cell.

A minute later, a growly man answered.

“Boss, we got a problem,” Caden snarled as he kicked the bike in gear and sped off down the street.

Fifteen minutes later, he came to a screeching halt in front of the bar and snarled at Nikolai as he marched on by.

Ace met him at the door and signaled for Blade, who followed Cade and Nikolai into the back of the bar.

Marcus was waiting for them, huddled over a stainless steel table, scrolling through his tablet while chatting with his phone on speaker.

“Yeah, he just arrived. I’ll call you back in a few.” Marcus stabbed his phone with his finger and then locked eyes with Cade. “We’re going to get him back.”

“And I’m going to bury that motherfucker,” Caden snarled. He had never been so pissed before in his life.

“Sheriff Burke is checking out security camera feeds to see if he can locate Luc and that asshole ex of his. I’ll call him back after we decide on a plan.”

“Hunt asshole, murder asshole. Sounds like a plan to me,” Caden growled, punching his fist into the table.

Ace grabbed Cade by the shoulder, trying to offer him some comfort. “That asshole messed with the wrong crew. We’re going to get our boy back and dismember the fucker.”

Caden nodded to Ace over his shoulder. He appreciated that all the guys had his back, and he loved all the murder suggestions being made. This was brotherhood. This was family. They stuck together and helped one another. No judgment and no questions asked.

Alexis came rushing into the back room. “Is it true? Was Lucas kidnapped?”

She looked worried and scared and couldn’t stop shaking her head in disbelief.

“Yes. But we’re going to get him back,” Marcus cut in.

“Do you think it had anything to do with why Lucas was here earlier?” Alexis asked.

They all looked at Alexis, confused.

Cade had totally forgotten that Lucas had stopped by the bar for some unknown reason earlier in the day.

What had he been doing? And if he was going to leave town, why stop by his place of work?

It just didn’t make any sense.

Neither did drugging him and leaving town with his psycho ex-boyfriend.

“Boss, can we check the cameras to see what Luc was up to earlier today?” Caden asked, the pit in his stomach tightening.

With each minute they wasted, Luc and his ex got further away. They needed to find him.

“Yeah, that’s a smart move,” Marcus noted, straightening up and motioning for Cade and Ace to follow him.

They all crowded into Marcus’s office and huddled around his laptop as he scrolled through the bar’s surveillance feeds.

It didn’t take them long to find Lucas. He entered the bar just after three, then headed downstairs into the basement.

Then they watched as Lucas walked over to the lamp that hung on the wall and turned it, causing the hidden wall to shift, giving him access to the area Marcus had restricted for crew business only.

“I thought only a select few knew about the room?” Marcus grumbled, glancing over at Cade and giving him a stern look.

Marcus could punish him later, but right now, he needed to focus on the boy’s movements.

Once in the hidden room, they watched as Lucas picked up a cloth sack and…

Caden’s eyes went wide as he watched the once sweet and innocent man collect his instruments of death. He wasn’t sure what the boy’s intentions were, but judging by what he was collecting, it probably wasn’t good.

Closing the wall behind him, Lucas crept back up the stairs and exited the bar using the back exit. He didn’t say goodbye or even glance over his shoulder. He was solely focused on the steps in front of him.

“It appears that our boy has a plan of his own,” Marcus noted, pressing pause on the video feed.

“What do you think he is going to do?” Ace asked, looking a little green in the face.

“Nothing good, I’m afraid.” Marcus turned to Cade. “Who knew your boy was so dark? Make sure you don’t ever forget an anniversary or birthday, bud.”

Caden gave him a glare. This wasn’t the time for jokes.

“We need to rescue him,” Caden said, slamming the laptop closed and straightening up.

“I hate to tell you, Cade, but I think we all underestimated that bashful little twink. Something tells me he is a lot more dangerous than we give him credit for.”

At that moment, Marcus’s phone rang.

“It’s the sheriff.”
