We finish up, and I’m still buzzing. The anticipation’s killing me as we make our way out of the locker room. “Is Logan still on?” I ask Kieran, like it even needs to be said. Of course, Logan’s on.
“Yeah, man,” Kieran says, wiping down his face with a towel. “He’s been waiting. Just need to clean up, and then we head out.”
Beau laughs and shakes his head. “I think he’s just as excited as you are. Dude’s got a camera on him like a photographer at a wedding.”
“Shut up.” I grin, slapping Beau’s shoulder as we make our way outside.
We get into the cars, and the drive to the rooftop venue is quick. The place is stunning—decked out like something straight out of a magazine.
The skyline in the background, the lighting perfect for the vibe we’re going for. There’s a big white tent in the center filled with decorations—pale blue and soft pink, streamers, fairy lights hanging down.
It’s the ultimate baby shower setup, and I can’t stop looking around, taking it all in.
Logan and his husband Henry are already there when we arrive, both of them looking sharp as usual. Logan’s holding his camera up, ready to record everything for Daisy.
The setup looks just like we imagined it: a small cake table, a gift area, places for us to sit. It’s intimate but perfect for the occasion.
I’m trying not to pace around like an idiot, but the energy’s making me restless. Kieran’s already talking to Henry, and Beau’s checking out the cake. “Where’s Daisy?” I ask Logan, trying to hide my grin.
Logan flashes me a smile, winking. “She thinks she’s helping me with a photoshoot. She texted me twenty minutes ago saying she’s on her way, so she’ll be here soon.”
I nod, feeling a slight pang of guilt. I wish things were different between my mom and me. I’m excited, but I wish she was here to see it, too. I swallow that feeling quickly.
Tonight’s about Daisy. Not my mom.
Kieran steps over to me, sensing where my head’s at. “Don’t let it get to you, man,” he says, giving my shoulder a squeeze. “We got this. She’s gonna love it. And so are our babies.”
I nod, appreciating Kieran’s reminder. This is our moment. We’ve done the work, put in the time, and now it’s showtime.
The elevator doors ding open, and we all freeze, looking toward it. I swear, my heart skips a beat as Daisy steps out.
She looks stunning—her dress flowing around her, her belly more pronounced now. It’s hard to believe how much she’s changed, how much we’ve all changed.
She looks around, confused.
“Surprise, baby,” I say, my voice rough with emotion.
Beau grins next to me, pulling Daisy into his arms. “This is for you. For the babies.”
Daisy’s eyes go wide, her mouth opening slightly in shock. She blinks and looks around, taking in the entire scene. She letsout a shaky laugh, and then, without warning, tears spring to her eyes.
“You guys… you really did all this for me?”
I step forward, pulling her into my arms, too. “For you. For us.” My voice is thick, emotions choking me up. “We wanted to get the gender reveal right. We wanted it to be special.”
She sniffles, brushing her tears away. “I don’t know what to say. This is just… this is everything I’ve ever wanted.”
“Perfect,” Beau says, spinning her to him and kissing her softly. Kieran walks over and wraps his arms around her.
I take her hand.
We’re in this together.
And then we hear it—the roar of a helicopter. Daisy’s face lights up, and she clutches onto my arm. I can feel her excitement.
The helicopter circles above us, and a banner unfurls in the sky. Logan’s camera is on us the whole time, capturing every second. I watch Daisy’s face as the banner comes into full view, revealing little blue footprints on the background of the banner.
She gasps, her hands flying to her mouth.
