Page 42 of Necessary Time
“So you could regret last night?” Wesley asked, a small laugh following behind.
“No.”
“Then why, Colin?” Wesley peered across the table at me, taking his hands back into his lap.
“I was feeling a little overwhelmed,” I said.
“Did we move too fast?” His voice was so sincere, the question so earnest.
“No.” I shook my head. “Not at all.”
“Too slow?” He leaned forward, lowering his voice like Grayson could hear. “I know you agreed to go slow, but I don’t want you to get bored.”
“I didn’t agree to go slow,” I interrupted, kicking out the chair closer to me and beckoning him closer. “I was the one who suggested it.”
Wesley got up and scooted onto the closer chair, a flush climbing up his throat as he settled himself. That close, I could smell the sex and the sweat on him. I bet if I kissed the side of his neck, I could taste the beer I’d drank the night before on his skin.
“I really liked everything we did,” he whispered.
“I did too.”
“I’d like to do it again,” he said. “But I don’t want to keep you if you won’t want to be here.”
“Now you’re just being a smartass.”
Wesley pulled the mug of coffee Grayson had made for me closer to him, raising it to his mouth and taking a measured drink. The innocent mischief I’d gotten used to seeing in his eyes was building itself back up, almost like a tank being refilled.
“You were the one who was leaving,” he reminded me.
“And that was wrong of me.”
“So you won’t do it again.”
“I won’t do it again,” I agreed.
“Anything else?” He took another drink of my coffee and set it back on the table.
“And I’m sorry,” I said. “For trying to leave without talking to you first.”
“That’s a new rule for us then. Right?”
“No sex and no leaving without saying goodbye?” I took the coffee and took a drink of it for myself. I’d never had whatever Grayson had prepared, but it was equal parts sweet and rich.
“The no sex part is not forever,” Wesley corrected.
“But the goodbye part?”
“That one sticks,” he said. “For however long this goes on for.”
A heady moan made its way down the hallway and I glanced over my shoulder toward Grayson’s bedroom. Wesley bit back a laugh and he pushed himself to his feet, holding out his hand for me, much like I’d done for him the night before.
“Let’s go talk someplace more private.”
Wesley led me back down the hall to his bedroom, closing the door behind me before sitting down on the edge of his bed. The sheets were a tangled mess from the night before, his shirt still on the floor where he’d left it.
“I don’t know what I’m doing with you, Wesley.” I leaned against his dresser while he gave me a onceover.
“That makes two of us.”
