“Danny!” Mac squeals and runs into his arms. “I thought you were going to be later than this.”
“Well, I thought a good surprise was in order,” he tells her, giving her a kiss. “Plus, how could we not celebrate that goal.”
Amelia leans into me and whispers, “I’m so happy he’s here for her. She misses him so much when he’s gone.”
I lean over and kiss her forehead. “I can see that. I can’t imagine being separated from you like that.”
“Well, let’s hope that never happens.”
“Agreed.” I tell her.
August returns, holding a tray of shots. “Danny, my man, you are just in time for shots!”
“Oh boy! I was hoping.” Danny’s voice is thick with sarcasm.
August passes them out and says, “If everyone could please raise a glass to the players of the Blaze. You all mean so much to me on and off the field. I’m happy to call you all my friends and family. Cheers!”
We all yell, “Cheers!” and down the shots. As if on cue the music picks up into something that you can dance to.
“Did you do this?” Cassie asks August.
“I may have said we had something to celebrate!” he calls over the loud music.
“Well, then let’s celebrate!” Mac calls, leading everyone over to the dance floor.
I look to Amelia, “How do you want to do this? Should we go?”
“Oh hell no. You can hold onto me, can’t you?” She says wiggling her eyebrows at me.
“Oh, I like the sound of that.”
I guide Amelia over to the dance floor, making sure she has a clear path with her crutches. She’s moving around on them pretty good, slow, but it’s to be expected. She turns herself so that her back is too me. I spend the next hour allowing her to dance all over me and grind her ass all over me. And I have zero complaints. It’s a fun night of dancing. Everyone has someone to dance with, except Hendrix and August, but they seem to make the best of it and dance alone. Although, I don’t miss the way August’s eyes find Hendrix every once in a while.
When she’s sweaty and tired, Amelia turns to me and says, “Are you ready to take me home, football?”
“Oh, peach, I’m so ready to take this fine ass home.”
Chapter Twenty-Seven
~AMELIA~
The car ride home is full of crackled tension. Neither of us says a word. I can tell that we both want something to happen when we get home. I can feel the anticipation building as I wonder how it will start. Thankfully, the Backwoods isn’t far from the apartment, so I don’t have to wait long.
“Want me to carry you into the apartment?” Dex asks me as he puts the car in park.
“I think I can walk up the stairs.”
“I hate how you’re on the second floor with crutches,” he says, reaching over and squeezing my hand. “I don’t mind carrying you at all, really.”
I nod. “Okay, maybe that’s for the best.”
“I agree with that.” He winks at me, exiting the car and jogging around to my side of it. He opens the door, unbuckles me and swivels my legs around so that he can easily help me out of the car. He takes my hands and pulls me gently to a standing position. “My lady,” he says with a wink before picking me up.
He pushes the door closed with his hip and begins heading towards the stairs.
“What about your bag, my bag and the crutches?” I call out.
“All of those things can wait until later. I will come back for them. Right now, I’m only worried about getting you into the house.” He smiles at me and picks up his step.
