Page 113 of My Broken Mate
Gabriel nods before eyeing Sean expectantly. “So?”
“I can try,” Sean says. “But don’t expect any major changes fast. As I said, old habits die hard.” He pauses. “Talking about old habits. Let’s try something new.” Sean puts his drink aside and turns to me. “I want to try to reach out to your wolf. Is that okay?”
I nod, ready to try something new. The sooner I have answers, the sooner I can mark Kata. There is no chance I will give up on my wolf now that I know he is there.
Something flashes in Sean’s eyes as his wolf comes forward. For a while, nothing happens until I feel a dull ache in the back of my head. Trying to fight against it, I press my hand against my head.
“Sean,” Gabriel says.
“No, don’t stop!” I exclaim. “It’s not the worst headache I’ve had!”
Sean doesn’t say anything and keeps going. I can feel him push more against my mind, probably trying to link me or maybehaving his wolf try to establish a link to mine. We are brothers after all, and with that, we have a special connection. Beads of sweat form on my forehead, running down my neck, until the dull ache turns into a splitting headache.
Sean pulls away.
“I am sorry,” I gape.
“No, don’t be. He is definitely there. I had him for a moment.”
My eyes snap open, momentarily forgetting the queasy feeling in my stomach and my headache. “Is that true? You felt him?”
“No, I didn’t just feel him,” Sean verifies. “I actually was able to see him for a moment.”
“No way!”
“He has built strong walls,” Sean says thoughtfully. “But we are getting closer to finally making him let them down.”
He is there! Well, I knew he was, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to connect to Kata and feel the mate bond. To have Sean verify that he isn’t only a distant existence in me, but has an actual form, makes this even more real.
Chapter thirty-four
Sexbomb
*REMY*
Kata and Kiki have been laughing for five minutes straight. “This is the silliest story I have ever heard,” Kiki gapes. “I wish I could have been there to see Gabriel swing through your window.”
“It certainly was a sight,” I say.
“Has Lyle already heard the story?”
“No, but you can be there when I tell him,” I offer.
She giggles a bit longer before forcing herself to calm down. “So, you two are really mates?”
Kata leans her head against my shoulder while I hold her hand. “Yes, we are mates. No hiding anymore.”
Our families left it up to us to decide whether we want to come out to everyone or keep it to ourselves. They were just content toknow the truth. However, I don’t feel like hiding it anymore, and as for Kata… I doubt she ever wanted to hide it. She just did it for my sake.
“Sorry,” I say. “I know it was a bit childish to hide it. I went into panic mode. Not because of Kata obviously, but because of everything and everyone around me.”
“Maybe a bit childish,” Kiki grins. “But I get it. No hard feelings – I am just so happy for you!” She winks at us. “To be fair, I had a feeling there was more going on than just flirting.”
“Oh?” Kata pops her head up. “Really?”
“Remy has never been touchy with a girl in front of us before,” she beams. “So, I figured either he asked you to be his girlfriend and become his chosen mate or, well…” She gestures at us. “That. Seriously, you two, that’s just so sugary sweet and perfect.”
When Kiki heads to the restroom for a moment, I take advantage of our alone time and cup Kata’s cheek to make her look at me. “See, she said you are sweet and perfect.”
