Page 76 of Monster Daddies
Some of them have mates who are fighting alongside us.
We have to fix this, Kael.
We will. We'll bring them to the palace. They need a fresh start.
"We're not here to hurt you," I tell the Omegas. "I'm King Kael, and this is my mate, Seraphina. She was a member of this pack until recently."
"K-king K-kael, are our mates dead?" one of them bravely asks.
I feel sympathy for her because I can't tell her for sure. "We only ended the wolves that fought alongside the leaders. We gave everyone the chance to join us. Several of them did."
She lets out a shaky breath and nods. "T-thank you."
"We're offering a safe haven at the palace to anyone wanting a fresh start. No one will ever hurt you again."
They seem to relax with my reassurances. Saint leads us out of the house, which is more prison-like, with bars on the windows and heavy locks on the doors. When we get outside, two of the Omegas break off from our group and fall to their knees over the wolves lying on the ground.
"They are alive," Sera rasps.
My eyes fly to her face, and she flashes me her beautiful smile. I hold her tighter and press my lips to hers in a fierce kiss.
"Don't you ever do that to me again."
"I promise, Daddy. Can we go home?"
I kiss her forehead. "Soon. We need to secure the land and make arrangements for the innocent wolves."
"They'll come to the palace, right?" she asks, looking at the Omegas and children.
"I can't force them, but I've offered sanctuary. Whether they come with us or go to another pack that will be up to them."
"Thank you," she murmurs, resting her head on my shoulder.
The two wolves the Omegas are hovering over regain consciousness and shift to human, pulling their mates into theirarms tearfully. I look to the other unconscious wolves and then to Saint. He nods in understanding. He'll take care of them after the Omegas are taken away from this place. They've seen enough bloodshed for a lifetime.
It takes two days to make arrangements for what's left of the pack. There are fewer than eighty wolves left after the fighting ended. We’re heading back home today, and I'm so damn happy about it. I want to return Sera to the palace, where I know she'll be safe.
She has spent much of her time with the Omegas, ensuring they have what they need. Saint has been beside her the whole time. Considering how he's hovering, I have a feeling his mate is among the group, but he's giving her space. Not that I blame him. They are worse off than I initially thought.
All of them are malnourished, and several of them are bruised from repeated beatings or worse. Sera has worked miracles in a short time. They are looking stronger and brighter by the hour. I can feel her using her magic every time she touches a shoulder or hugs a child. She's giving them a healing boost. After the first night, when I figured out what she was doing, I made her promise not to overexert herself. She promised that this type of power is more rejuvenating because it's a gift, unlike her offensive magic, which drains her energy when overused.
It's finally time for us to head back to the palace. Everyone is coming with us except a few of my warriors who are going to do exactly what I wanted to do to this place in the beginning—burn it to the ground. The wall will contain the fires, and with the magic still protecting the walls from the outside, only othermagic users will be able to find this place. When I'm done, it will be like it never existed.
With the Omegas and children, it takes us another two days to travel the distance back to the palace. Sera has had to use her powers more than I like, but she's keeping to her promise to not overexert herself. When we're back on royal packlands, I'm filled with relief. I sent two warriors back early so they could arrange for all our new charges to have places to go once we arrived.
I know Alberta and Petra will have taken the lead and set everything up. Which is good because I'm ready for some alone time with my mate. We've got a punishment to deal with, and then I want to spend the next week in bed with her.
Just as I expected, Alberta and Petra, along with Anne and a couple of Omegas, are waiting at the edge of the forest with clothes for those who traveled in wolf form. I'm relieved to see them because with them here, I'm able to scoop Sera up and take her straight to our rooms.
She rests her head on my shoulder, playing with the ends of my hair. "I'm so glad to be home."
"Even though you've got a punishment coming for you?" I ask, smirking.
"Yes, Daddy. I earned the spanking, and I'll take it willingly. I knew what I was doing when I left," she admits quietly.
"You were definitely a naughty wolf."
She nods her agreement.
