I throw my head back and howl, letting everyone know that the leader is dead. The fight still rages around me. Those who supported this pack's way of life are fighting to keep the status quo, and will quickly learn that we aren't here to take prisoners.
Knowing my warriors have things under control, I rush to my mate's side.
Chapter Thirteen
Sera
I stay close to Saint as Kael and the warriors fight against the wolves of my old pack. Any wolf that dares near me, I freeze them with my magic, and Saint dispatches them. On our run to the packlands, I explained a bit about my magic, and we planned on how to attack. I stun them, and Saint takes them out.
It's working perfectly since I don't have it in me to rip a wolf's throat out, even if they are evil. Sure, I could use my magic to kill them, but a bunch of dead wolves with no injuries would have people questioning things, and I'm not sure it's safe for the truth of my heritage to get out right now.
I hear Kael speaking to the leaders and warriors who are there to protect the cowards. I see several wolves that want to come forward when Kael offers safety, but they hesitate. I realize immediately that they are hesitant because they are the mates of some of the Omegas being held as slaves. They want to leave this place and protect their families.
I tell Kael through our link and hear him promise safety not only for them but also for their Omegas. It's my job to ensure those promises are kept. With a thought, I tell Kael where I'm going and set off with Saint toward where they keep the omegas.
We arrive at the building, which is used like a prison for the Omegas. It might look nice on the outside, but inside, there are horrors no one should ever be subjected to. The door is under heavy guard, but it's nothing for me to knock them all unconscious. We haven't dispatched them yet. Some could be mated to the Omegas and are only against us because they are being forced. We need to get inside fast so whoever is in there doesn't have time to harm the women and children housed within.
Saint pushes me behind him as we enter. I can hear quiet sobs and the sounds of a baby crying from somewhere deep in the building. I want to calm them, but my link to the pack was severed when I left. We make our way through the hallways slowly, and all of the rooms are empty, which tells me they're holding everyone in one place, probably under the threat of death.
When we locate them, I realize I was right about them being used against us. There are several Alphas, including two of the leaders of the pack and a handful of their favored guards. The leaders have Omegas in their arms, knives to their throats. The guards are in wolf form, growling at our approach.
Without a thought, I shift to my human form.
"If it isn't little Seraphina," Brand sneers. "I knew you weren't a simple Beta. The question is how you hid your designation."
"Let the Omegas go and I'll tell you," I reply with a feral grin.
"Fuck that. How about we kill your little friend, and we'll let you join our harem."
I let out a growl, and both men laugh.
"I like them feisty. You're going to be fun to break," Thane says.
With a burst of power, I toss the wolves aside and let Saint finish them off. Brand and Thane have twin looks of horror ontheir faces as they watch their friends being torn apart. I turn my attention to them.
"Let the Omegas go. Now," I command.
Brand shakes his head, digging the edge of the blade hard enough to draw a drop of blood from the terrified Omega he's using as a human shield. Rage. All I feel is rage. All I see is red. I let out a scream that's barely human and let my anger fuel my power. I don't just freeze the men holding the two Omegas. I use my rage to boil them from the inside out. I don't stop until they fall to the floor dead, dripping blood from every orifice.
The Omegas they were holding rush to the others and huddle together. I watch the men bleed from every orifice with zero remorse.I guess I am capable of killing,I think before everything goes black.
Chapter Fourteen
Kael
I'm just stepping into the building that holds my mate when I hear a scream unlike anything I've ever heard before. I run through the hallways, knowing that it's my mate. I'm stunned in my steps when I see two men lying dead, bleeding from their eyes and, well, everywhere.
I barely make it in time to catch my mate before she falls to the floor. I lift her in my arms and hold her close. The only thing that keeps the panic I feel from boiling over is that our bond is strong, and I can sense that she's fine but exhausted.
"What happened?"
"Is she okay?" Saint asks instead of answering my question.
"Yes, I think she just exhausted herself."
He lets out the breath he was holding. We both turn to the Omegas and huddled on the other side of the room. There must be at least thirty of them and several children. Though they are obviously terrified, they are protecting the pups.
There are so many,Saint says through the link. And none of them are marked…
