UNKNOWN LABORATORY IN AMERICA
D r . Beloca looked at the small diamond ring in front of him. It wasn't glowing unlike it did nine days ago. Its white glowy light was both a good thing and a bad thing.
The first night it glowed, the beaming sound had gone off in the thermometer which was in one of the drawers. It's the first time the thermometer is going off in years.
It was a victory he'd never forget. Even now, he can remember the overwhelming happiness that coursed through him at the loud beeping.
He'd rushed to the drawer, pushed it out, and there it is... The location of the ring bearer.
Instantly, he'd made the call to the Wolfhunters and revealed the location to them. Two hours later, they came back with the ring but without the bearer .
"The ring wasn't in the possession of a werewolf, but an old man who confessed to being a pawnbroker.
He said a lady pawned the ring to him. He was on the run to go and start a new life since he knows the monetary value of the ring.
" Adeladin, the director of Wolfhunter's had relayed to him on the phone.
"Clueless old goat. He has no idea the ring has more value than just monetary. Who cares about its monetary value when it holds greater value to us?" Dr. Beloca had snapped, "So, what happened next?"
"My men killed him and took the ring."
"Good. Have your men bring the ring to the lab, it will help us find the werewolves again, after eighteen years. I can't believe this day is finally here," He'd been happy, and he didn't bother hiding it either, "What about the 'lady' who pawned the ring?"
"My men are already out looking for her. We need her because she's our only link to those animals." Adeladin had stated.
"Yes. Find her and bring her to the lab after you're done with her."
"That will do. Can't believe we have this ring. Finally. We will get those animals." Those were the last triumphant words Adeladin said before he'd hung up the phone.
That was a week and four days ago. They'd been searching for the 'lady' but they haven't been able to find her.
Then, nine days ago, the ring had glowed.
He'd gone to the thermometer and looked. There is it...a different location.
Turns out a pearl is missing from the ring, and the glowing light of the ring was calling out to that pearl. The thermometer gave the location of the pearl .
He'd called the Wolfhunters and informed them. They'd gone to the location, which is the girl's house prepared for any resistance they might meet.
But they weren't prepared for the resistance they met. Two strong werewolves were with the girl. And they had escaped with the girl.
Till today, the Wolfhunters still talk about the powerful wolf that caught bullets with his hands and escaped more than two hundred Wolfhunters while piggybacking a woman. A powerful werewolf.
Dr. Beloca will bet all his money that the wolf is Number 6.
Just the thought of that animal has fear sliding down his back.
That was the last time the ring glowed which can only mean that the pearl has gone back to where those werewolves have been for the past eighteen years which made them undetectable. He figured that place to be their land.
"You sent for me, Dr. Beloca." The familiar masculine voice dragged him out of his thoughts—and his eyes away from the ring.
He closed the drawers and turned towards his apprentice, Simon. "Yes. Update me on your findings."
"Well, from what I know, those animals sent out most of their own to the old lab to look for us or any clues that might lead them to us."
"Mmm," he cocked his head to the side, "For now, we stay on the down low. Those animals are too damn strong. If we're not prepared, it will be a losing battle."
He has the chance to continue Dr. Angor's work. He wouldn't fuck it up. "Make sure to keep me updated, and make sure you never leave clues that will lead them here. "
"Of course, Dr. Beloca."
"After eighteen years of waiting for the perfect time, I am finally ready to continue Dr. Angor's work. Now, I only need the girl."
"The Wolfhunters are still looking for her. They are—"
"Not that girl, Simon. THE girl." He emphasized.
The emphasis helped Simon realize who the girl is. "Oh. The Successful?"
"Exactly." That is what they call her, for the past eighteen years.
That girl was the success they'd been searching for. For six months, they searched for that success but it eluded them. Until that girl.
The only human girl that survived the sexual; encounter with Number 6.
The only human girl he did not tear apart after their sexual encounter.
The only human girl that got pregnant with his child.
No one knows that there's a girl like that, not even Number 6 himself. Just him, Simon, Dr. Angor, and Hector.
They'd been surprised when they came to his cage after the screams and the roars, only to see Number 6 passed out as usual but this time around, his victim is alive. Barely alive, but alive nonetheless.
The Successful had been whimpering, tears streaming down her cute little face, so much blood dripping from between her legs but she was alive. Unlike the rest that was shredded to pieces beyond recognition.
They'd pondered on the reason why he left her alive, but no one knows. That was a surprise .
Another surprise is the fact that the girl got pregnant afterward.
"Alright. I will tell our men to search for her and bring her." Again, Simon's voice dragged him out of his thoughts.
"Yes. Exactly."
Simon turned to leave. He got to the door, stopped, and whirled around. "We call her The Successful but that isn't her name. Our men will need her name for the search."
Dr. Beloca walked to the window and looked out. It's not really a good sight because this lab is in the middle of nowhere, again, where they can never be found.
"Her name is Hazel. Hazel Smith."
Four Days Later, Ismena is having the most horrible of nightmares. It was so horrible that she woke up screaming at the top of her voice.
Footsteps padded the floor before the door swung open and Eline was right there in her bedroom in battle mood. "What is it!? Who is that...!?"
Ismena was breathing hard, sweat pouring from her body, her heart pounding soundly in her chest. "It...was...just a nightmare!" She gasped loudly.
"Oh, thank the Moon Goddess, I was so worried." Eline walked towards her and lowered herself onto Ismena's bed. "How bad is this nightmare that it left you feeling this way?"
Ismena shook her head. She can't remember what it is. No matter how badly she tried to remember, she is unable to do so. But the fear of it has her body shaking, she was almost on the verge of tears .
"I-I can't remember..." She gasped, grabbing her chest and squeezing tightly. It isn't her heart condition this time around, but the terror of the nightmare she can't even remember.
Eline stayed, patting her back softly for a long time until the fears abated. Her breathing returned back to normal and her body stopped shaking.
"Are you feeling better now?" The young woman asked softly.
Ismena nodded her head, "Thank you for staying with me."
Eline has become a good friend in the past few days, and she has come to like her like that.
"No problem at all." Eline likes her too, she is beginning to see her as the friend she never had. "Try getting some sleep again. It's barely dawn. The nightmares wouldn't come again, and you'll wake up feeling better."
"Okay, okay," Ismena nodded and laid down again.
Long after Eline left, she still pondered on the nightmare she can't even remember, she was scared to fall asleep again.
But thankfully when she did, she had a dreamless sleep.
When she woke again, it was almost noon.
Ismena took her bath and dressed in one of the comfortable gowns Eline bought for her in the market four days ago.
In her world, these long gowns and sleeve tunics will never be termed fashionable but here in Naturiah, it's very fashionable. And she loves the dresses, just like she has come to love this land .
In the past few days, Eline has told her more about Naturiah which made her fall more in love with this place than ever. The people sound amazing too, even though they hate humans.
All dressed up, she came out of the sitting room to see Eline already dressed up in a casual green gown and watching television in the living room.
"I don't have to ask if you slept well, I can see you did." She asked with a soft smile.
Ismena nodded, "Yes, I did. You're all dressed up and it's not your uniform."
"Yap. I want to go back to the market to buy the supplies I forgot to get four days ago before I go back to work. We're busier at work now because Alpha Alphose is not yet back from your world with your meds."
"Oh, okay." Unconsciously, her hand went to her chest and she rubbed it. There was no pain, nothing.
These past four days have been...heavenly for her physically. She hasn't felt any better, which is very very strange.
As days went by, she'd found herself thinking back on Eline's words to her. Not only about her being the mate to the Alpha King but also...
If you keep having intimacies with the Alpha King, you wouldn't be needing those meds ever again.
Those words have been ringing in her head for the past few days.
And for the first time, she found herself wondering... Can any of this be true...?
Is she really a mate to the Big Bad Wolfe ?
And most of all is it possible that there's a situation where she wouldn't be needing her meds...?
She'd done everything she can, not to think about him in the past few days but all her attempts had seemed futile.
Every single moment of the day, the thought of him lives and breathes in her head. In fact, Ismena feared that he has taken a permanent resident in her head without paying rent. Him, and the thoughts of that night in his arms...
"So, you wanna join me again at the market?" Eline's voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Yes, I'll like to go." She responded.
"Great. Go and get ready, let's go." Eline smiled at her.
She returned the smile as she rose from the sofa, and made her way toward the bedroom.
Then, she stopped and whirled around, "Were you really serious about me being...uhm...his mate?"
"Being what?" Then, the thought came to Eline, "Oh... that..."
She bit her lips. Talking about it a few days ago had been a mistake, especially when she found out that Ismena had no idea she was his mate. If the Alpha King didn't tell her, that can only mean that he does not see the need for her to know. She shouldn't have said anything.
But she has said something already, Eline thought, it's too late to back out from it. "Yes. I think you are his mate. No, I don't think, I know." She paused, "Even now, you still have his scent on you which is very unusual. "
Ismena is finding it hard to believe the woman, but for the first time, she is ready to listen. "Can you tell me more about it? About being mates...? About him...?"
Eline hesitated. Then, she sighed and nodded, "Get dressed let's go to the market. We will talk as we walk."
