Khaos
I love you.
I wake with a smile on my face and her words running through my mind.
I blink open my eyes to daylight, then roll my head to the side and realize I’m alone. Fury whines.
She’s not here.
For a second, I try to convince myself that she’s just gone to the house or…
But I know it’s a lie.
She’s fucking gone.
She made love to me, she told me she loved me, then she crept away in the dark without even saying goodbye.
Fucking story of my fucking life. Everyone leaves. Why should Amber be any different?
I roll to my feet and search for my clothes. I dress quickly, but a sense of futility haunts my mind. I race back to the house, Fury snarling and snapping all the way. Her horse is gone. Of course it is. I ready Mayhem quickly and pull myself into the saddle.
Hecate stands outside the stable, blocking the way. “She’s not for the likes of you, prince,” she says.
I’m fed up with the sarcastic way she says fucking ‘prince.’ I growl low in my throat. “Fuck off. She loves me.”
She sniffs. “Well, there’s no accounting for taste.”
“Move.”
She stands her ground. “You can’t go after her. This is something she has to do alone.”
I nudge Mayhem forward. For a second, I think she’s going to try and physically stop me. Or use her magic.
“She shouldn’t have to do it alone,” I say. “I can help. I need to help.”
Her eyes narrow. “Why should I trust you?”
I think for a moment and then tell her the truth. “Because she’s mine. Because I love her. I love her with all my heart and more than life itself. I will never betray her. I will die protecting her.”
She looks at me a moment longer then steps aside. “Get the hell out of here.”
And I do. Fast.
