Page 99 of His Fated Luna

With one last glare at Aiden, I led Jake toward the first aid tent, grumbling the whole way about boys being “childish, immature, and too drunk to think straight.”

While I tended to Jake’s cut, I took the emergency kit from the nurse and dabbed his lip. He flinched, so I blew on it lightly. He looked like he was enjoying the attention. A little too much maybe. But immediately my heart constricted in guilt . Jake was my friend and Aiden had punched him!

I mouthed, “I’m sorry,” once I was sure he was okay, and looped my arm through his as we left the tent.

Security had swooped in around Aiden by now.

“Excuse me, sir, we’re going to have to ask you to leave.”

Before I could panic, Tony showed up.

“Nothing to see here, fellas! We’re leaving soon,” he said, raising his hands like some kind of peacemaker. The guards backed off and Tony turned to Aiden, frowning. “Why did you just punch our cousin?”

“I’m going to the car. Get Rose so we can go home,” Aiden snapped.

Tony looked completely lost. “I sneak away for some fun, and everything blows up while I’m gone.”

He sighed and headed over to me. I was still hovering near Jake, who was acting like a smug cat in a sunbeam, soaking up every second of my fussing. Men were such babies!

The ride back was thick with tension. I sat fuming the entire way.

Tony tried to break the silence.

“Rose… it’s not really Aiden’s fault. Alphas are just…protective of their lunas—”

“I’m not his damn luna! Not really!” I snapped. I saw Aiden’s face harden in the front seat. “It’s all just for show. And so whatif Jake was hugging me? I was buzzed, and he was just trying to help me!”

There was no way I was telling them about possibly seeing Ray. That was a rabbit hole I wasn’t ready to fall into.

“Your stupid boyfriend’s going to out the whole thing,” Aiden muttered, twisting in his seat to glare at me.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I snapped. Was he just trying to get under my skin?

“Oh, come off it! Why are you lying?” Aiden’s voice was sharp, accusing, as he turned to look at me. “You’re always with him. He practically drools over you, leering at your…” His gaze flicked to my chest before he huffed and looked away.

“I—I—” I sputtered, stunned by the sudden accusation. What the hell was even happening?

What the hell was wrong with him? Jake did not leer at me! And even if he was my boyfriend—SO WHAT? It’s not like Aiden had any right to tell me who I could and couldn’t date. Just thinking about him and Lexia and that stupid medicine she suggested made my blood boil. “You’re such a hypocrite!” I screeched. “You sit there, telling me who I can and cannot date at the risk of being found out when you—you—you’re dating Lexia!”

Tony just pinched the bridge of his nose as we turned onto pack territory.

“This is like the worst rom-com ever made,” he muttered. “You’re both idiots.”

“I’m not dating Lexia!”Aiden protested, so angry I thought he might start frothing at the mouth any minute.“How many times do I have to tell you she’s my ex? It’s like a broken record!” Aiden snapped.

“Well, it’s not one of those… official break-ups!” I shot back.

Because it wasn’t really a break-up if you were just planning to get back together, was it?

“What the hell does that even mean? What the hell is an official break-up anyway?” He groaned, rolling his eyes so hard it made my blood pressure spike. Why did guys always have to pretend things were so simple?

“I may not know everything—”

“That’s an understatement,” he cut in, his words slicing deep.

“You’re a dick, Aiden Sinclair!” I yelled before he could say another word.

When the car finally screeched to a halt outside the house, I threw the door open and slammed it shut behind me. I stomped inside, seething.
