Rose closed her eyes with a playful smile on her face. She was visibly enjoying the feel of my hand exploring her. Then my hand began to trail down to the triangle between her legs, but her next words made me stop.

“Then why’d you do it?”

I stilled my exploration down south, respectfully retreating my hand to rest over her stomach. This was going to be hard to admit.

“I was jealous.”

“What?!” Rose exclaimed disbelievingly, sitting up in bed, a sheet coming to cover her upper torso. "Jealous of what?”

I sat up to look at her seriously. “I thought you and Jake were either going out or liked each other. I had just marked you, you had just turned…I had all these pent-up feelings inside me that weren’t making any sense. I wanted you, I liked you, I was jealous and angry because I thought you wanted Jake. Those feelings all just…spilled over,” I concluded with a flourish of my hands.

“Why did you think there was anything between us?” Rose asked, surprised. “We’re just friends, Aiden.”

“Well…not for lack of trying on his part,” I nearly growled out. “I knew he liked you. I knew you were upset because apparently you thought he didn’t like you.”

“I was hurt,” Rose countered. “I was hurt because I had thought he was my friend and I had had a crush on him in high school. He told me he only hung out with me because I helped him with schoolwork.” Rose’s voice took on a dejected tone. Why were we talking about this again? I knew that if a guy only gave a girl the time of his day because she could do his homework for him, it was not good for any girl’s self-esteem.

“But I’m telling you what I thought,” I countered, as understanding began to fill my features. How had I gotten everything so spectacularly wrong? “I thought you were upset because he was playing hard to get. Then…” I swallowed a little guiltily. “That day after you moved in, when I dropped you to class, I actually had a meeting with the security camera guards for the campus CCTVs. I was trying to do some investigationof my own regarding the day you were kidnapped.” I looked at Rose, willing her to realize what I was talking about.

“You saw the footage of when we kissed,” Rose said in realization after a minute of deliberation.

I nodded somberly. I'd been so jealous back then, my wolf howling in pain in my mind. But in retrospect, I deserved it.

Rose let out a small sigh.

“You could have just asked me.” She arched an eyebrow. “If you’d cared at the time. But you were so caught up in Lexia…” Rose trailed off.

“I wasn’t…caught up in her,” I replied. “I…I think I already had a feeling we weren’t going to make it.” Igave Rose a wry smile. “Not when all I could think of were a pair of annoyingly endearing green eyes.”

“Oh, come on, Aiden,” Rose scoffed. “We all know you were still trying to find a way to get with her. If anything, I think—”

I was over her, pushing my erection into the side of her hip. I was turned on again and her eyes widened on this. “Rose, I’m only going to talk about this one time with you because I really don’t want to discuss me with another girl, but…”I ground into her so she could feel my growing bulge. “I’m always horny. If you think I’m only like this because we just started having sex, well you’re wrong. This is me all the time. I stopped sleeping with Lexia and broke up with her. She tried a lot of times, but each time I refused. Remember that one day we picked her up from her place? When she gave you that medicine?”

I made a face, still angry about that stunt. “I really wish you’d told me. I kept thinking it was something you were trying to get me to use so you could be with Jake. Anyway, she tried that day. Told me to send you home and come over to her house later. I told her no and, by then, I think she and I both knew it was a sinking ship. I rejected her…countless times. For you.”

Rose looked at me and then she spoke the words that I guess may be most mattered to her in this conversation. “You guys had a lot of sex?”

“Record-breaking,” I dead-panned. “But it stopped after I saw you the first time in that diner with Jake…after I returned from England. Hell, I didn’t even want to kiss her anymore. And after you moved in, I didn’t touch her like that at all.”

“But she was all over you that time at your graduation. You didn’t push her away,” Rose argued.

“Did it make you jealous?” I asked, lips quirked a little.

“Yeah,” Rose admitted begrudgingly.

I leaned down to kiss her jaw. “Good. It was supposed to.”

“Oh!” Rose yelped.

My elongated canines grazed her neck, lightly rubbing over my mark. We didn’t leave the hotel to go sight seeing until much much later.

Chapter 49

“If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were.” ? Kahlil Gibran

Rose's POV

The next day, Aiden was in the shower when I finally picked up his phone which had been ringing off the hook incessantly. I gave a small start when I saw that it was Lexia calling him. What did she want now? Would it be wrong of me to pick up the call? I still hadn’t forgotten the lie Lexia had told Jake.
